Great Soul cd but I wish it were remastered. No bad songs. Not One.

This CD has many different sounds but I did like it a lot. Karma- It talks about what else karma and has a middle eastern beat mixed with hip-hop. Very unique and her voice lends a nice feel to the song. Heartburn-It is just drums and a sax in the background. This song grew on me. It is very catchy and will bring to mind the Harlem Renaissance era. If I Was Your Woman- This is a remake but it doesn't compare to the real song. It doesn't even come close. I could skip this song. You Don't Know My Name- Her first single. I LOVE this song. Her voice is beautiful on this song. If I Ain't Got You- A nice ballad! Very heartfelt and well sung. Diary- Very mellow song...and very nice! She's telling her man to think of her as his diary. A treat. Dragon Days- I'm not sure what she was trying to do on this song. Wake Up- sounds like something from her first album. Nice song! So Simple- This song serves no purpose and that little background computer voice is SO annoying. When You Really Love Someone- Basically an extension of Fallin' and a Woman's Worth. sounds like the same beat and everything. Slow Down- Soothing song, mellow, nice harmonies. Good listen! Samsonite Man- About a man always on the run from commitment. I'm kind of iffy about this song. Overall this CD is worth your money. Great CD with only a few skip-worthy tracks!

Absolutely, THE BEST MUSIC THERAPY IN MY WORLD!

This is a great album and a perfect intro to her body of work. Q magazine called it "a proper soul album which hooks you with the first pneumatic beat and draws you deeper with every heady atmosphere and vivid emotion." There were four hit singles from this album, and the other songs also deliver enjoyment. One stand out track is #9 "Wake Up", and one of her greatest songs, "If I Ain't Got You" (#6), is probably my favorite she's sung, to date. The piano accents in "You Don't Know My Name" are impressive - the music video is super - but the faux conversation in it becomes trite upon repitition (the video ends with her looking out the diner window, as if it was imagined.) Two songs I won't rate with five stars are: "So Simple" - all good except an electronic effect put on her voice in parts, annoying like the chipmunks; and "Nobody Not Really" - the last track - a jazzy piece that is also uncompelling. I would reorder a download with tracks 1-9,12-14,11. That still leaves an album over 51 minutes, and it ends on a solid R&B song, "When You Really Love Someone". All in all, it's a terrific album - a great first purchase.

I received this album as a gift, because I LOVE Alicia Keys. It was a birthday gift, and I received a lot of albums for my birthday. I went to play this one, and it was messed up. I tried cleaning it to see I'd that was the issue, but it wasn't. Whoever pressed it messed it up. It skips HORRIBLY...but since it was a gift and I got so many thing, by the time I realized it, the return window had closed. It's not like this was a book or something that I could've opened and easily seen the damage for. I believe there should be a longer return window for albums, as this one was a waste.

I was completely happy and satisfied with the product. The product is everything I imagined and I was pleased with the price and packaging. Great tracks on the record with great quality.

Oltre alla super hit If ain't got you, If i was your woman/Walk on by e You don't know my name, segnalo il funk irresistibile di Heartburn (che sound old school!) e Dragon days.

First, ピアノのうつくしい音。 Second,重低音と彼女の声との対比に思わず気持ちがあがる。karmaはだいすきな曲。 まだまだ洋楽初心者のわたしが 洋楽がだいすきな知人に聞きやすいよ と薦められたアーティストが彼女でした。 karma を聴いていると、邦楽と洋楽のある種の 差 を感じてしまいます。 優劣、ではないけれど、 世界観とかスケール、広がりがやはり圧倒的なのです。 彼女の声とピアノは本当によくお似合いで 聞いていて心の琴線に触れるってこのことね、と感じたので。 難しいことを抜きにして、いい曲をただ聴いていたいという音楽ツウにきいてもらえたらわかると思います。 Amazonの評価を参考にして本当によかったと思えた一枚でした。
