DW2701 #8 Drill Flip Drive Complete Unit, yellow

I inherited one of these from a friend who passed. Had never seen one before, but loved the concept as soon as I had. Having the screwdriver bit on the opposite end of the drill bit really saves time and allows you to cruise through your projects. I do find the tiny Allen-wrenched set screws a little hard to work with, but that’s mostly a blindness/lack of good light in my shop issue. Bought this one for a colleague who was as equally impressed as I was. Great deal for a great tool!

I picked up the DEWALT DW2701 #8 Drill Flip Drive and haven't looked back. It's incredibly sturdy and the flip drive is a real game-changer – makes swapping bits a breeze. It's compact enough to fit in tight spaces, and the yellow color is surprisingly easy to spot in my toolbox.

My third one! Great for DIY small to medium projects. Best of the flip drive/drills. The others do not have the fit and finish of the Dewalts, and they do not allow space for longer drill bit. The other brands add built-in allen wrench tip to the bottom of the tool, which blocks the hole that would allow for a long bit to extend through. Dewalt provides a separate allen wrench, which then leaves the hole at the end device open, so that a longer bit can pass through, and be installed in the device. Its the little things that count

I have several of these quick change drill/driver bits from both DeWalt and other notable brands, many over 20 years old and still functioning. This DeWalt has left me disappointed because the drill and driver section are somewhat loose once the collar is in place. So much so that you can see some wobble when you pull the trigger on your drill. In previous versions the bit holder slid into place and was held there by a circle of spring loaded ball bearings but, for some reason, DeWalt excluded this in its design. The countersinking function is okay for superficial holes but, if you want to cover the screw head with a plug it takes a lot of force to get the proper depth. The other problem is that most of the major brands included an Allen wrench integrated into the bottom of the bit holder so you could easily remove the bit if needed. DeWalt again, for some reason didn't do this. Instead, they included an Allen wrench in the package that will eventually get misplaced.

I have had a number of these over the years, and they are in my opinion the best ones on the market! They are fast to flip over the the countersink, and they just push right back in without having to hold anything up for it to lock in. You can put whatever size countersink in it and you can have the drill bit out as long as you want as there is plenty of room. These hold up really well and have always been my go-to drivers!

I bought this because I really like Dewalt tools. I took the drill flip tool out of the package and took a good look at it. The tool looks like the Craftsman one that I currently have so I was hoping that it would work as well if not better. I was having to counter sink some screws in a board last night and did not expect any issues with the Dewalt tool. Well, after drilling the first hole and countersunk it to the proper depth the tool worked great. I drilled in the screw and started with the next hole. As I positioned my drill the drill bit with the countersink fell out of the tool. I got the Allen wrench and put it back together. Then when I finished drilling the hole the drill bit stayed in the wood when I tried to remove the drill. I had to use the Allen wrench to connect the drill bit to the tool so I could remove the drill bit from the wood. When I went to remove the flip part of the tool I found that it would not come out. I tried everything I could to get it out and ended up having to use a pair of pliers to get it out. By doing that I ended up putting some gouges in the part that I had to grip with the pliers. It seemed to be still working fine so I installed the screw and then started the next hole. Guess what happened next. The drill bit broke off in the wood! Talk about things going from bad to worse! I still had 5 more screws I had to install to finish. The reason I purchased this flip tool was because I have been using a Craftsman flip tool for the past 20 years and I cannot find a replacement drill bit or the countersink part of the tool. The Dewalt flip tool was going to be the replacement tool for me. Now what do I do? I have had the tool too long and cannot return it to Amazon.
