The device wont stop beeping after calibration and will not locate a stud?

No, it calibrated just fine and would find studs as well. my other stud finder verified it. The problem is the battery compartment cover is cheaply made and pops off. I wrapped the damn thing with packing tape and used it anyway.

Does it work on plaster walls?

Dear customer, thanks for your question. The stud finder can scan through the plaster(about 3/4 inch).
