I love the smell of Nutmeg, and the taste....oh my! Simply Organic is my favorite brand for most herbs. They always taste fresh. The overall quality is exceptional. The health benefits are surprising when it comes to nutmeg, it's more of a powerhouse than people give it credit for. It supports bone health, aids in detoxing the liver, boosts moods, enhances blood circulation and a myriad of other good things. Of course, it loses something when it's covered in pesticides, that's why I always buy Simply Organic Herbs and Spices.

It took me 20+ years to go through my jumbo jug of nutmeg, and all I could remember of it in recent years is being grit. I figured I should get a smaller size next time around... Sure, there are cheaper options than Simply Organic's, but this one spoke to me and I'm glad I listened.First of all, the packaging is exceptionally practical and minimalistic, being a thin cardboard sleeve that folds in at the ends for insulated protection against impacts. No taping required. I knew as soon as I saw that, this is a good brand. The metal cap screws on nice and tight, and should provide a better freshness seal than typical plastic flip-open tops (especially when they start caking up and don't close well). The plastic snap-in piece below it has very generously sized shaker holes, so there's no need for dual flip-open sides for shaking and pouring. Finally, the flavor blew me away! I had long forgotten -- if I ever knew -- that nutmeg could be so richly flavored. A small sprinkle of this Simply Organic Nutmeg runs circles around a big clump of the old stuff.

Nutmeg is a staple of Winter Belgian Cuisine (potatoes, red cabbage, beef stew, pasta in white sauce...). It is always best to grate your nutmegs when needed. The Ground nutmeg is of course very convenient.

It does the job - custard decoration. AND, it is Organic and probably the Best Spice Brand available. Top quality.
