"Visually gorgeous" – Richard Corliss, TIMEAcclaimed filmmaker Hayao Miyazaki (Spirited Away) delivers a modern masterpiece with this Academy Award®-nominated exploration of creative passion in a hostile world.Jiro Horikoshi is fascinated by aviation but unable to become a pilot due to a medical condition. He moves to Tokyo in 1923, surviving the Great Kanto Earthquake to become a highly accomplished airplane designer. As rumors of war escalate, Jiro reunites with Nahoko, a young woman he met during the earthquake years earlier. The two fall deeply in love, just as Nahoko falls ill with tuberculosis. Inspired by visions of Italian aeronaut Caproni, Jiro must confront mounting tragedies with dignity in this epic tale of love and perseverance.Bonus Content:Behind The MicrophoneFilm Completion Press ConferenceOriginal Theatrical TrailersTV Spots Review: One of the best Studio Ghibli Films to watch - One of the best Studio Ghibli movies I've had the honor of watching. It deserves to be among the Studio Ghibli classics
This is one of the Studio Ghibli films I didn't get the chance to watch as a kid. I'm glad I was able to rectify that now. It's a pretty good movie. I'm not going to spoil anything, but I do recommend it. Especially to all the Hayao Miyazaki fan.

The story of two loves, doomed
The story of a young engineer who wishes to create beautiful airplanes, and of his love for a beautiful woman. He creates his craft and marries the woman, but the machine will be used to fight a war that destroys his country, and the sick woman leaves so that he will not have to watch her slowly die.

Strange and Beautiful
About the designer of the A6M (Zero/Zeke) airplane. Somewhat romanticized and fantasized - especially the character of Caproni - but extremely well done. To some degree a "missing link" in the director's work leading to "The Boy and the Heron." Compare with "Spitfire" (1942). Events of the Kanto earthquake/fire 1923) depicted, reminiscent of "Howl's Moving Castle" and "Grave of the Fireflies." Recommended for graphic beauty and animation quality.

Terrific and poignant anime story for older kids and adults!
Excellent story and visuals help tell the story of a particular historical period in Japan during the WWII era and beyond. Really enjoyed the supplemental materials as well! Younger kids might not be too keen on this movie as it's more of a grown up theme.

Worth the Money
This product arrived in beautiful condition! I honestly have zero complaints. There were no scratches on the disc, and the movie ran wonderfully. It's worth the money!
