A: the weight is in both the front and the back.  If only on one side it would slide to the weighted side and create discomfort.

**Q: Will it stay in place while jump roping, or will it bounce up and down on my shoulders?**
A: To answer your question, I adjusted my vest as tight as possible and did a few jumping jacks. 
 With my small frame, the vest still moved quite a bit.  If I were wearing a thick sweatshirt, or two, it could possibly stay in place.

Just enough weight that I am not hurting, and getting a good walk. The vest is not tight on me and I have good movement. I am a little over weight, not muscular, but fat, and hope this will assist in making the transaction a little faster from fat to muscle. I am walking (fast walk) about seven miles a day prior to purchasing this vest. I tried wearing the vest yesterday and could only walk more than two miles (tired me out!). I thought not to push myself and get used to the weight and work myself up to where I was without the weights. I walk daily, so I do not believe getting used to the vest will take too long. There was a very faint smell, but not enough to bother me. There is no sand leakage. This vest provides me the right weight and resistance level. A good buy and investment for my health.
