Known as the "Toguro" or "Dark Tournament" Saga, the second season of the fantasy-adventure Yu Yu Hakusho , focuses on Team Urameshi's entry in the supernatural Dark Tournament, the demonic equivalent of a WWF tag-team smack down. Yusuke Urameshi abandons his duties as a "spirit detective" to lead his comrades Kuwabara, Kurama, Genkai, and Hiei, into battle. They fight a variety of bizarre, powerful demons in one-on-one matches. But what happens outside the Tournament Arena may prove more important. Yusuke finally hatches the "spirit egg" he acquired after his death a year earlier. Phuu, a creature who looks like a cross between a blue penguin and Ryo-Ohki in Tenchi Muyo , emerges from the glowing shell--a symbol of Yusuke's hidden kind heart. Knowing that Yusuke isn't strong enough to take on the Terminator-like Toguro, Genkai teaches him the "Spirit Wave Ball." Yusuke can't really handle that much power, and he suffers horribly as he struggles to master it. Having passed her ultimate technique on to her student, Genkai meets her destiny calmly. The season ends with the first match of the Tournament finals: Team Urameshi vs. Team Toguro. The outcome isn't really in question, but getting there will be more than half the fun. This season of Yu Yu Hakusho feels a lot like Dragon Ball , as the heroes and villains punch each other out of the arena, through walls, etc. Like Goku, Yusuke relishes nothing so much as a good fight: he and Jin the Wind-Tamer are delighted to find a worthy opponent in each other. The combination of camaraderie, slapstick comedy and no-holds-barred combat will appeal strongly to adolescent boys. Locked into a competition set up by the criminal underground, more than the fighters' lives are on the line as the Dark Tournament unfolds round by brutal round. Pain and suffering are redefined, a demon from the past is reawakened, and the mysterious masked fighter will step forth. Their situation is worse than grim as the Tournament Finals are set to begin. Contains episodes 29-56. Review: A classic that any fan of anime worth thier salt should have in their collection. - This is not only one of my favorite anime shows growing up, it was one of my first ones that weren't so mainstream (i.e. Yu-Gi-Oh, Digimon, Pokemon, etc...). I honestly never got the chance to see the 4th/final season (trust me, I will soon enough...) but my all time favorite season is definitely season 2, The Dark Tournament Saga. Quite honestly if you're even looking to purchase this box set than you need no explanation of the plot, the show or anything about this; you very well know already and it's been talked about plenty enough as is, but for the very unlikely chance someone doesn't know the plot here's a quick synopsis: Yusuke and team (Kuwabara, Kurama and Hiei) travel to a remote island to compete in the Dark Tournament against teams of competing demons and apparitions to have a rematch against the powerful demon Toguro. I can't express enough how much I love this show and especially this season; this for me is the apex of the entire series (feel free to disagree...), brutal fighting, a slew of different characters/challengers, edge-of-your-seat action, some quirky comedy thrown in for good measure and a gut wrenching (though obvious) tragic plot point stemming from the death of a prominent character (no spoilers...not really...but you get what I mean...). Aside from that, I am reviewing the Blu-ray ver. so as far as video quality it's as vibrant and clear as you'd come to expect, obviously more so than the original analog, along with that the audio is clear as well. Though somewhat minimalistic as far as special features/extras go (just the opening and closing music with the scenes without text) I guess that's to be expected, and honestly is inconsequential. My only real gripe is this, there's a bit of false advertising to address here, the box clearly says "The Complete Second Season". Unfortunately it's not the "complete" second season, as its a whopping 41 episodes in total, and this set only contains 28 of the episodes spread across 3 discs. It starts on the episode 29 "Flowers of Blood", 3 episodes past the initial start of the season and ends with episode 56 "Yoko's Magic" ending 10 episodes before the initial end. It's extremely annoying that I didn't get to start the season properly and watch the most climatic part of the series. And honestly I would've been happy just having this season if I'd only have one. But really it's not a big deal, it just gives me a reason to own the other seasons too, which you can't really say is a bad thing. Overall, this series, and this season is a must have for any fan of anime. Just remember if you just get this season, you'll be missing out on 13 episodes. Review: The Dark Tournament, the best story arc, the best season period! - The best season in the entire series with the best story arc! Here is my review for Yu Yu Hakusho season 2! Plot and Characters: (minor spoilers) season 2 really starts at episode 26 which comes in the first season in this version but i will give an up to date idea of what happened. After Yusuke's last mission he is out with his friends Kuwabara and Keiko. Yusuke is met by a biker/deamon named Toguro who he faught in a eariler case. Thinking he wants a rematch Yusuke and Toguro go to a parking guarge, Toguro tells Yusuke that he wasn't using his full power or even half his power last time they were fighting, Toguro powers up and demolishes the parking guarge in seconds leaving Yusuke in total fear of how strong Toguro is. Toguro tells Yusuke that he must enter in this fighting tournament called The Dark Tournament, If Yusuke refuses enter Toguro tells him that he will kill Yusuke and everyone Yusuke knows and has ever cared for. Now Yusuke, Kuwabara, Hiei, and Kurama and a mysterious masked figure enter the tournament and fight for their lives. Pros: This is the absoulte best story arc in the entire show! It has tons and tons of action, drama, story telling. Honstly this season and episodes deserves an award for how good it is. This dvd version is 100% UNCUT and UNCENSORED so you get all the kicks, punches, blood and action you need to see to enjoy the show. The voice acting is amazing! The old style of how the show looks makes it feel even better. Cons: The only problem I had with this is the physical dvd's. I got this dvd packaged totally plastic wrapped and when I opened it some of the disc's had some light scratches on the back. After playing the dvd they turned out to be alright and all so just a warrning. Season 1 and Season 2 and Season 3 episode mini mix up: This is just telling you that season two (aka the Dark Tournament) really starts at episode 25 which was put into the S1 box instead of the S2 box. Its just a heads up. Also this box S2 only goes up to episode 56 and the true end of of the Dark Tournament ends at episode 66 which happens in S3 disc 2 so technally the entire 1st half S3 is still the Dark tournament. Over all: I love love love this season more than any of the other season of Yu Yu Hakusho! This simple is the best every! BUY THIS SERIES!!!!!

Yu Yu Hakusho FTW
This boxset includes season 2 of Yu Yu Hakusho, which would be the Dark Tournament. If you're a fan, this of course is a must buy, if you want the whole series. Even if you're not a fan, buy lol, start with the first season of course, imo this is one of the best anime of all time. If you're an anime fan and you haven't watched this anime, seriously stop what you're doing and go watch it now lol you won't regret it. This boxset takes off where the first one left off, at the beginning of the Dark Tournament. This boxset has plenty of action, as this is a Tournament, that Yusuke and the others have entered. It contains episodes 29-56, which in actuality isn't the whole second season. The whole second season consist of eps. 26-66, this would be my only complaint, sadly unlike it's advertised (The Complete Second Season) it does not contain the whole second season, it doesn't even finish off the Dark Tournament. I haven't a clue as to why Funimation decided to do it that way but that's them. This set contains four disc, and has nice artwork on the cover of the slip cases. Definitely worth it for the price, esp if you're a fan.

DARK TOURNAMENTTTTT
Ah the dark tournament ark, aka the best ark in the Yu Yu Hakusho series. Can't really get into TOO much detail about season 2, seeing as I'm only currently on episode 36 but hey, so far so good. It really does seem the steaks are really high this time, with the fact that they were mostly forced to participate in this tornament or they would have all been killed anyways. Geez, how did the human world survive for this long without Yusuke saving the day? In any case, same with season one blu ray, great value for tons of episodes seeing as the cost of new anime blu rays are, blu ray quality is solid, etc. You get the point. If you already watched season one blu ray then you OWE it to yourself to see this series to the end. I don't really see why you shouldn't buy it, it's fantastic.

The fun part has just begun now!
Season One of Yu Yu Hakusho was pretty slow moving and I questioned myself if I should get Season Two, but after seeing this product for $20 here on Amazon, I bought it and was worth it! The second season features the Dark Tournament, which is Yusuke's Team against the others and fighting their way to win the tournament. Using their special abilities, of course, or else they would not be able to survive in this tournament (I won't spoil). Its video and audio quality are 5* as before, the soundtrack of YYK was very well made and one of my favourites by now is Monster Suit (how can you not love instrumentals). This set features episodes 29 through 56 and yes, it's Region B compatible. The slipcover's excellent and looks great right next with the rest of the other season sets. =)

Great anime, Great price.
On a whim I decided to buy every episode of this anime, remembering how much I liked it years ago when it aired on toonami. I thought I may have grown out of it since then, and was worried this may have been a bad purchase. Thankfully, these worries were completely wrong. This anime is as good as I remember, and everything I hoped it would be. Amazon has it at an amazing price. (I picked up all 4 seasons, over 40 hours of anime, for under $80) The quality is great, it comes with both english and Japanese voices with subtitles for whatever you prefer, and some few fun extras. If you are on the line, considering whether or not to get this series, I highly recommend it. It was everything I hoped and remembered it being.

In the end it is what it is... Great Cheezy Fun!!!
In my opinion, a Yuyu Hakusho review goes hand in hand with a sailor moon or dragon ball z review. The format of all of these shows is pretty much the same with small differences, granted the obvious ones (characters, time period, etc.) There is something about that period and genre that does a fantastic job of balancing great action, strong dynamic characters, supernatural influence, humor and teenage angst. Usually teen angst is very hard to pull of properly, for my taste, and ends up being a slow repetitive song that's ending is as predictable as it's beginning. The blu-ray itself is looks good. I haven't noticed any problems with the outlining (something that has been proven to be a learning curve on the HD upsample of these pieces originally animated in SD.) The sound is also solid and as it stands, the only thing left to be desired is really special features. While it has the standard text-less opening/closing and trailer. Other than those though, there really are few others. While there are other factors to consider, these are my points of why I feel that this is a well deserved addition to your collection Enjoy!

Great product great price
I have been wanting to order season 1 2 and 4 of this show since I got season 3 on sale a year ago and finally took the leap. It was totally worth it, just as awesome as I remembered from back in the day. A great show and a quality product. Lots of special features as well.
