Why does it say UP beside the arrow and not airflow? My 2010 Prius dealership filter had the UP arrow pointing up but the airflow is down. Which way?

Hillbilly is not entirely correct. I have a 2008 Lexus IS250 and the airflow is down, not up. An he is wrong about leaves being on top of the filter due to gravity. If there are leaves on the downstream side of the filter that means 2 things. 1. Your current filter isn't filtering and 2. When the fan comes on, you will have leaves blowing out of your vents. Unless your kids are stuffing leaves in your vents, there's no way there will be leaves on the downstream side of the filter. Keep it simple, the dirty side is the side the air went in and the clean side is the side the air came out. That's what filters do.

Charcoal side up? This time Arrow direction has changed since I have been buying these for years for a 2007 Camry. Confusing or misprinted on side of the filter.

These filters are just paper, and it doesn't matter which direction you install. The arrow only matters if you remove the filter, clean, and replace it. If you replace a used filter in the opposite direction, you will be blowing dirt off of the filter and into your cabin. So you can choose: Always arrow up, or always arrow down, just remember how you did it.

The filter should be installed with the arrow direction on the FILTER pointing in the direction the air flows in your particular vehicle. Since this filter may fit in more than one make or model of vehicle each may direct the air flow differently. You'll have to refer to your vehicle's owner's manual for the proper installation.

I recently installed the FRAM Fresh Breeze Cabin Air Filter (CF10285) in my car, and I'm generally quite satisfied with its performance, earning it a solid 4-star rating from me.
