Solid Value for a High-Potency Vitamin D3 โ Easy to Take, Long-Lasting Supply
Iโve been taking Doctorโs Best 5,000 IU Vitamin D3 for a while now, and itโs one of the easiest supplements to work into my routine. The capsules are very small, smooth, and easy to swallow โ no gritty texture or lingering taste. I like that itโs made with extra virgin olive oil, since D3 is fat-soluble and this may help with absorption without needing to plan it around a heavy meal. Vitamin D3, when taken as recommended by a healthcare provider, can support bone health, help maintain healthy teeth, aid immune function, and contribute to overall well-being โ especially if youโre not getting enough from sunlight or diet alone. The 360-count bottle is a real convenience โ I donโt have to think about restocking for nearly a year, and the cost per capsule works out to be very reasonable. I havenโt noticed any stomach upset, aftertaste, or other side effects, and I appreciate the simplicity of the formula without unnecessary fillers. A couple of things I personally keep in mind: 5,000 IU is a high dose, so I take it under my doctorโs guidance and get my levels checked to make sure they stay in a healthy range. I store the bottle in a cool, dry spot away from sunlight, because I know softgels can sometimes stick together if exposed to heat. For me, taking it with food feels like the best way to support absorption and avoid any chance of mild GI discomfort. Bottom line: This is a simple, well-formulated, high-strength D3 thatโs easy to take and lasts a long time. As long as youโre mindful of the dosage and store it properly, itโs a great value and a reliable way to keep your vitamin D where it should be.

Reliable, high-quality Vitamin D supplement
This is a well-made Vitamin D3 supplement from a brand I trust. The capsules are easy to swallow, and the bottle is clearly labeled with dosage and ingredients, which I appreciate. I like that it is non-GMO and free from gluten and soy. The value is good for the amount provided, and it has been easy to incorporate into my daily routine. Overall, it feels like a solid, straightforward supplement with clean ingredients and good manufacturing standards.

Great Value for a Supplement recommended to all
First some notes from my practice: Vitamin D has emerged over the last 10 years as the new wonder supplement (whereas Vit E has fallen from grace). Vit D demonstrates evidence based reduction in fracture risk, reduced fall risk (due to increased muscle stability, a landmark JAMA article), aids in muscle contractility, promotes proper wound healing, and associated with decreased depression and improved cognitive function (these last two are currently a correlatory finding only). The old 400iu (international unit) daily recommendation has been increased to 800-100iu. This amount is nearly impossible to obtain via photochemistry alone unless you get multiple hours of equator-grade sun exposure daily. Even our sun-drenched Iraqi vets are deficient because of the comprehensive clothing/ body armor. Product Review: Pros: This specific brand (Doctor's best) has the greatest bang for your buck. Taking one 5000iu cholecalciferol (D3 version) capsule every 2-3 days is more than sufficient. Capsules are very small, easy to swallow. No taste or odor. 360 capsules are plenty for 2 years of supplementation. Note other brand's prices, but beware concentration, i.e.- international units per capsule. In this case, the Amazon calculated price per tablet/ capsule is otherwise useless information. Ignore it. Cons: none Just don't take a capsule everyday, as this is technically an overdose (>4000iu daily) and can lead to long term issues including electrolyte and hormonal imbalances. Excess is stored in adipose (as are fat solubles A, D, E & K) but toxicity is quite rare. Overall: a great buy, on the order of 1/5th to 1/6th the price of your chain drugstore "sale" price for weaker 400iu capsules. Take this 5000iu capsule once every 2-3 days. Note on testing for deficiency: Serum testing will usually be low (should be > 20-30mg/dl). Recent evidence promotes testing in those sickly or > 65 only as they're likely to super-deficient and require higher short term supplementation (probably 50,000 iu D2 ergoalciferol semi-weekly) For those healthy younger individuals, testing is not needed and will not change treatment. Recommendation is to supplement everyone.

Its a good value
You are getting alot of pills in one bottle, but it is anyones guess if this stuff WORKS

Necessary supplement for health.
Necessary supplement, especially in the Midwest. Small sized pills, easy to swallow. Should probably check your D levels before supplementing, but most people are probably deficient in this and magnesium. I went to a holistic dentist for a possible cavitation surgery and the office won't treat you if you're deficient in D3. I supplemented with this taking at least 20,000 IU daily and when I took the blood test my levels were just below the middle of optimal. Haven't noticed any side effects.

Doctor's Best brand vitamin D3 softgels contain extra virgin olive oil instead of soybean oil
Both the 2,000 IU and 5,000 IU versions of Doctor's Best brand vitamin D3 softgels contain extra virgin olive oil instead of soybean oil. Both the 2,000 IU softgels and the 5,000 IU softgels have the exact same dimensions and size. Studies show that people who use extra virgin olive oil at home enjoy a longer life expectancy and a much lower risk of heart attacks, strokes, cancer, infections, pneumonia, influenza, bone fractures, gum disease, and dementia compared to people who use any other vegetable oil at home. Extra virgin olive oil contains substantial quantities of hydroxytyrosol, tyrosol, oleocanthal, squalene, and also very tiny amounts of oleuropein, lignans, coenzyme Q10, and p-coumaric acid. Oleuropein is water-soluble but not fat-soluble so only a very tiny amount of it gets into the olive oil from the olive fruit. IMPORTANT: Remember that the first symptom of hypervitaminosis D is hypercalciuria, which is fine particles of calcium sand coming out in your urine. You would know that the sand feels like microscopic rocks rather than dead skin. If you stop eating/swallowing vitamin D immediately after this happens, there will be no permanent harm and the calcium sand will stop coming out in your urine within 2 days. However, if you continue to eat/swallow your normal dosage of vitamin D after this happens, you will eventually develop irreversible damage to your arteries, kidneys, lungs, heart, and possibly other organs. Although the vast majority of people would need to eat/swallow at least 40,000 IU of vitamin D3 per day to experience hypercalciuria, I briefly developed hypercalciuria with a daily dose of only 15,000 IU per day: 4,000 IU from vitamin D3 softgels and 9,000 IU to 13,000 IU daily from eating shiitake mushrooms(D2) and pink salmon with the skin(D3). Both foods are extremely good sources of vitamin D. Until recently, I had been swallowing only 2,000 IU of vitamin D3 daily for several years and had never experienced any problems whatsoever. However, my scariest moment happened about one week after I discontinued my daily 4,000 IU of vitamin D3 softgels. The calcium sand in my urine, which for me is always colored orange, returned for just one more day because I ate lots of shiitake mushrooms on that day. I have never had kidney stones in my whole life and, as far as I can tell, I still haven't developed any kidney stones. UPDATE: I can swallow 5,125 IU of vitamin D3 daily (5,000 IU from 1 softgel and 125 IU from a 600mg calcium carbonate tablet) plus eat lots of various fish(D3) [for 21 days] and still not develop calcium sand in my urine. UPDATE: I can swallow 10,125 IU of vitamin D3 daily plus eat lots of various fish(D3) [for 21 days] and still not develop calcium sand in my urine. UPDATE: I can swallow 15,125 IU of vitamin D3 daily plus eat lots of various fish(D3) [for 21 days] and still not develop calcium sand in my urine. UPDATE: I can swallow 20,125 IU of vitamin D3 daily plus eat lots of various fish(D3) [for 7 days] and still not develop calcium sand in my urine. UPDATE: I can swallow 25,125 IU of vitamin D3 daily plus eat lots of various fish(D3) [for 3 days] and still not develop calcium sand in my urine. UPDATE: I can swallow 50,125 IU of vitamin D3 daily plus eat lots of various fish(D3) [for 1 day] and still not develop calcium sand in my urine. The only way I can trigger the orange-colored calcium sand to form in my urine is to eat lots of dried shiitake mushrooms(D2) from China. The orange-colored calcium sand will always appear in my urine about 3 to 5 hours after I eat about a half pound (dry weight) of shiitake mushrooms on any day, even if I had stopped eating fish(D3) and stopped swallowing vitamin D3 softgels for many weeks. This proves to me that the mushroom farmers in China and the U.S. love to expose their mushrooms to plenty of natural sunlight and/or expose their mushrooms to ultraviolet fluorescent lighting just before shipping them to market. This increases the vitamin D2 in mushrooms by 100 times or more, thereby saving many human lives by preventing cancer, heart disease, and hip fractures but endangering mushroom lovers with hypervitaminosis D. BREAKING NEWS: I'm not continuing this experiment any further. I will be swallowing only 125 IU of vitamin D3 for three months, then resume at a dosage of only 5,000 IU per week plus 125 IU per day the rest of my life. Why so low? The reason is that according to a 2010 scientific study by Karl Michaรซlsson and others, swallowing 5,000 IU per day of vitamin D3 will approximately double the risk of death from cancer in most people compared to people who swallow only 1,000 IU or 2,000 IU per day. Swallowing 10,000 IU per day of vitamin D3 will approximately triple the risk of death from cancer in most people compared to people who swallow only 1,000 IU or 2,000 IU per day. Swallowing 15,000 IU per day of vitamin D3 will approximately quadruple the risk of death from cancer in most people compared to people who swallow only 1,000 IU or 2,000 IU per day. However, swallowing only 1,000 IU or 2,000 IU per day of vitamin D3 will lower the risk of death from cancer in most people by approximately 50% compared to people who don't swallow any vitamin D2 or D3. My final advice: Swallow 2,000 IU of vitamin D3 per day if you don't eat much fish or mushrooms. Swallow only 1,000 IU of vitamin D3 per day if you eat plenty of fish and/or plenty of mushrooms and/or damage your skin and eyes with plenty of sunshine. It's perfectly OK to swallow vitamin D2 instead of vitamin D3 if you prefer. Both are equally well absorbed. If you are willing to regularly measure your blood hydroxyvitamin D levels, then aim for the optimal range of "serum 25(OH)D," which is exactly 24 to 34 ng/mL. That's the exact same thing as 60 to 85 nmol/L. The higher or lower (farther) you go above or below (away from) that optimal range, the higher your risk of cancer death, cardiovascular death, bone fractures, and impaired immune function. In my opinion, mushroom farmers should completely stop irradiating their mushrooms with ultraviolet light. They could be causing just as many cancer deaths, heart attack deaths, and hip fracture deaths among mushroom lovers as they are preventing among occasional mushroom eaters. Also, the U.S. government should measure the amount of vitamin D in mushroom products. MEDICAL INFO: Orange-colored calcium sand in human urine can be caused by (1)eating too much animal protein, (2)eating too much salt, (3)swallowing 1,800mg or more of supplemental calcium per day, and/or (4)swallowing several hundred thousand IUs of vitamin D2 or vitamin D3 in just one day. However, people who eat lots of mushrooms can develop orange-colored calcium sand in their urine after eating much less than 50,000 IU of vitamin D. The reason is that mushrooms contain not only lots of vitamin D2 but also lots of vitamin D1 and lots of vitamin D4. Vitamin D4 has health benefits that all other forms of vitamin D lack. For example, vitamin D4 is prescribed by some medical doctors to increase the amount of calcium circulating in human blood.

easy to swallow softgels, no after taste, great value, good percent daily value
I don't spend much time outdoors (I work from home and mostly at nights to deal with our offshore team - I work for pharmaceutical company) and my vitamin D levels have been very low for several years. I tried prescription for vitamin D (D3) but that did not help even after costing a lot in co-pays. I finally did thorough research on this and bought this product. I have been on it for almost 3 weeks now. I started feeling better in about 4 days after I started taking it. I have chronic insomnia for about 15 years now. I went to specialists, tried sleep medications, had two overnight sleep studies, used varieties of devices, nothing helped. I also take multiple medications which add to the problem. As I work at night which compounds the problem, it has been more severe in recent years. Four years back, I could not sleep even 10 seconds for 8 continuous days and nights and had a seizure and was hospitalized. I had many severe health issues because of this problem. However, I sleep somewhat better now (about 3-4 hours a night) . It needs to be even more better and I hope it will be, after taking regularly for some more time. I will check my vitamin D levels in my next blood test. I also feel better as I am less anxious. I am thinking of taking melatonin supplements too to improve my sleep further. I tried these in the past but they did not help at that time. I am hoping that they will work now with the combination of this product. These are easy to swallow softgels. There is no after taste. Small size. After reviewing many products, I found doctor's best to be having excellent dosage per serving and is also sold at extremely reasonable price. 5000IU has been good dosage for me.

The individual softgels in this 5000IU are no different my locally brought one that is 1000IU.
The size of the softgels from the 5000IU (125mcg) from Amazon are no different from the 1000IU (25mcg) size of my locally bought from my pharmacy store. if the IUs are already different, why there is no change in their sizes? I felt cheated. Seller please explain. if not , I would want to ask partial refund as there is a difference in IU on the either package but both softgels are the same sizes (see photo).

Quality product, small and easily swallowed.
I am taking this tablet because 5000 (IU) International Units is the perfect dose. Vit D is starting to be recognised for preventing a range of modern diseases like cancer, prostate enlargement, MS etc. I take it with Vitamin K2 See YouTube for D3 and K2 being taken together
