WARNING---extremely addicting!!!
if you haven't played this yet... you don't know what a good open-ended RPG is!graphics: the graphics are great... but you need a good system to run them... i have windows vista home premium server pack 1 with an intel centrino dual processer 2.4 GHz, 4 GB RAM, and Nvidia GeForce' 93000m GS 512MB. and it ran smooth and perfect on that... and i didn't have any trouble with using the game on vista.... it really works... even better than on xp!gameplay: at first... like every game... it's kinda hard... but it's really easy to get used to it. i love the armor and weapons...and you even get to make your own spells and enchant your armor with anything you want!!!!... i made this one bow that had 200 frost, fire, and elecrical damage, drain health 100 points for 30 seconds, damage 100 points of health for 30 seconds and soul trap for 3 seconds (soul trap... traps the power of the soul you kill with a soul trap on it and lets you use it for enhancements)... and i called it "THE REAPER" :P (i used it to kill the final boss in the main quest... and it only took 1 shot.... good thing too... because it only had one shot in it.... see, if you enhance weapons they have an amount of times you can use them before you have to recharge them... and since i made soo many enhancements on that bow it only had one shot...) i think that's a suitable name... don't ya think??? ^.^music: it's kinda cool.... there is alot of music in oblivion...and most of it is kinda creepy...story: there is so many stories!!! and all of them are really good... and for me... the story is everything! and if a game doesn't have a good story i hate it!!! but if it does have a good story... i don't even care if the graphics suck... good thing this game has alot of great stories and good graphics... and it even has some famous actors in it... well not in it... they play the voices of some of the charactors: Patrick Stewart, Terrence Stamp, and Sean Bean.replay value: what would an RPG be without really good replay value.... in other words IT'S GREAT!!!!!!doesn't that sound awesome.... but the thing you need to know.... is that this game is super addicting.... i played it for 6 days straight with 3 hours of sleep.... i couldn't stop playing!!!so if you think you can control yourself... get this game AFAP(as fast as posible)!!!P.S. oh and make sure you look up the cheat for money... it makes the game alot more fun if you don't have to keep making money... i only used like 18 million thoughout the entire time i played... so you see why you need the cheat....18 million isn't easy to get otherwise!!!

Bethesda does it again!
I've been playing the Elder Scrolls games since the beginning and I am constantly impressed that Bethesda continues to improve on this franchise, making each subsequent purchase better than the last.Elder Scrolls IV is no exception. Your character, like their entire series, is given free reign of a massive world to explore. Want to be a sword swinger? Perhaps a spell weaver? You can do it - the choices are yours. When you think about that concept - a game that allows the player to basically do whatever it is they choose - you begin to realize the level of work that Bethesda puts into these masterpieces.Oblivion added a new feature to the Bethesda toolbox (something they try to do each game release), which is Smart AI. Instead of just standing there waiting for the player to approach, each NPC (non-player character or computer controlled character) is programmed to follow the course of a normal day - work, sleep, eat, clean up, socialize, etc. That makes finding the person you are looking for a bit more interesting, as they may not be standing at the counter waiting to talk to you, but may be attending church service or buying some supplies. Fascinating concept in a video game.Of course, it goes without saying, Bethesda has made this game as beautiful as one would imagine. You can truly immerse yourself in the world they have designed and if you take the time to explore a bit, you'll be amazed at all the attention to detail they have put into this game. And, like always, they have written a music score that sets the mood of their franchise. As soon as you load the game - you instantly recognize the music and begin to feel like you're stepping into a world designed especially for you.Granted, Bethesda has released Elder Scrolls V now and is working on an online version of this game (something many fans have wanted for a long time, while still others want to avoid, in fear that it may destroy this great gaming house, as happened to the Final Fantasy franchise a bit when they decided to go online. That review, however, is for another time. I have not yet acquired ES5, but plan to purchase it this holiday season - and if/when ESOnline finally comes out, I will more than likely give that run as well - this developer has earned my respect for making great games, so I will give them a chance, regardless of how successful it is.

Amazing! Huge! Fun! ....BUT...
this game is alittle different than your standard midevil RPG. However, still fun and plenty to do! I highly recommend the game but with a couple of heads up(s):1. health potions are expensive and rare so... even if you're a warrior you need to use alittle magic to heal or become a chemist and make your own potions. ALL of the midevil RPGs I've play in the past have provided readily available health potions for players but not here.I don't get it?2. As previously stated (in other reviews) the leveling is just plain goofy; in MOST if not ALL midevil RPGs you gain experience by finding treasure and dispatching monsters then;you are signaled to level up so... you are given "10 pts" to distribute between the characters attributes. Naturely, you place the points in the attributes that make the character stronger; for example ...with my mage I distribute 5 pts on "intelligents" and 5 pts on "magic power". Now I'm ready for the next level of monsters.IN THIS GAME the computer distributes the points for you based on your actions while gathering experience; the problem is if your character runs around alot... when you level, points are placed in the "agility" attribute WHICH a mage doesn't need. UGH!!THEN!! to add insult to injury the game designers have the monsters level up with you!! consequently you could become increaseingly underpowered because your experience points went towards skills you don't need. I don't get it?Now it's pretty clear the designers wanted to kept the game interesting/ challenging by having the monsters level up but if they level up proportionally with the character what's the point of having levels? I mean ..part of the fun is struggling to fight through a group of goblins then... after having leveled up a few times coming back to make hay out of them! ....Right?! ....You with me!? LOL!Anywho now that that's off my chest.. the game is fantastic! Fun! amazing! beautiful! especially at night or when it's raining! just amazing! You can even switch between 1st and 3rd person-very cool! some of the side quest storylines are even alittle touching! in short ...They put ALOT of work in this game and it shows.I recommend the game to anyone who enjoys midevil RPGs.Good Luck! and don't run around too much!!

Easily one of the greatest games of 2006-8
Ah Oblivion. Easily one of the greatest games of 2006-8.If you're a fan of the elder scrolls you know what to expect. If not this is a good place to start.Coming into Oblivion from Morrowind and Daggerfell I knew what to expect. Amazing fantasy gameplay and story and the game did not disappoint. There are so many places to explore and faces to talk to. And what I love about this game is the facial expressions and the lore, I love the characters. I love the sidequests. The Emperor and his three sons have all been murdered by a cult known as the mythic dawn. and that's all you need to know because unless you play it you won't realize how much there is to do in this game. Now I will talk about its flaw. The difficulty is always set very low the first time you start it and if you feel like you can change it at any point and time. Sometimes you will come across a small glitch or two. (I've had a unique experience where a shop didn't open for a whole month of in game time, not a huge deal because there are plenty other shops) When you are in the daedric realms the game only autosaves at 2 points. The first time you enter the realm and the first time you enter or exit any building. Once inside those buildings going to the next floor does not cause an autosave (none that I've ever seen) The game is still an experience and most gamers would enjoy it I believe!

heres the deal...
I have always loved this game. Its really fun. Well designed. Many, many quests and lots of cool things to discover. It has always been my favorite. But I recently got Saved by Jesus Christ, and when I tried playing, there was just too much evil for me. There was a quest, where I had to go to this fort. In the fort were some priests, praying over these possessed men. The possessed men were afraid of the light that the priests carried. My job was to cast a spell on the priests that allowed the possessed men to kill the priests. As the priest died he cried out, ''Save me Lord..'' I was shocked. It hurt me. I was too convicted and had to throw it away. I realize this probably isn't helpful to the average gamer just trying to find a new game to play, but my review is my experience with this particular product, so there it is.

Beautiful Game
This is a wonderful game! The vanilla version is the best version to buy. You get the Knights of the nine dlc with this version. You have to buy the shivering isles dlc separately. Do not buy the game of the year edition of this game. It has a glitch that hinders you from curing vampirism. I love this game. I can't praise it enough. The graphics are beautiful and they still hold up pretty well even today. You will get lost in this world of magic, demons, betrayal, and questing. In this game you journey through the world in search of the amulet of kings. Along the way you get caught up in a cult called the mythic dawn. You end up having to journey into oblivion, which is the equivalent to hell, to stop the gates from opening and save the land from the prince of destruction.

Frustrating
I am a major fan on RPG's, but this one just did not cut it. I won't argue about the graphics because they were good for the time that this game came out. I didn't suffer from game glitches like most other negative reviewers seemed to have. I just think they failed to combine the Leveling aspect of the RPG with live action battle well. The camera angles are horrible, and if you have a strong hold on the joystick, the angle will keep shifting which messes up your ability to maneuver. I normally give games a lot leeway with my patience so that I can adjust to the battle system and decide objectively how I like it, but I just couldn't with this one. One area has 4 goblins all within fairly close range of each other, but only one comes at you at a time. Later, I come across some ruins with a fireplace, a human with a mace charges at me from some far away place, and a mage is right behind. I'm no stranger to first person combat games, so when I couldn't even last 10 seconds against the two I got frustrated real quick. The start of this game should be easy on you damage wise while you learn the mechanics, not kill you after 2 hits because you missed one opportunity to block. Between the load time between deaths, the slow running time to reach destinations, the needlessly difficult beginning characters, and not so fun battle system (sneaking, jumping, healing, stealing, attacking, all felt so stilted), and the ease with which enemies can drop you down got me to quite 2 hours into it. Which especially pissed me off because most of that time I spent customizing my character with no direct guide as to how things worked. After making sure my character was perfect (based off of my knowledge of typical RPG game strategy), I finally started the whole battling process and everything. It wasn't until after you're done in the sewer that you really get an idea what's important to have ability-wise, which they luckily let you fix your base stats. But because they didn't hint you'll be able to, I ended up spending most my game experience customizing stuff I ended up tossing only 30 minutes later. If you haven't played this series before, and you have played some of the newer RPGs that are out (Dragon Age and Newer), chances are this games dated graphics and slow-like-molasses battle system will not cut it for you.

Oblivion one the BEST RPGs of all time.
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion was one of the best RPG games I've played in my life which I've spend more than 50 hours + on one single save file. If you do the math, about $10 for 50 hours+ is a offer one cannot not simply refuse. One of the reasons why I found Oblivion so much fun was the amazing story, unique characters you meet, and of course the quests that will make you feel you are like in an adventure in order to unlock the unknown and truth. At first, when I first played the game it was quite slow and tedious but it soon picked up and I feel any person who enjoys playing RPGs, especially Fallout, will love this game.
