Sundial Compass Solid Brass Sun Dial (with Wooden Box) by NauticalMart

I bought this to use as a display. It's well made and beautifully designed. The wooden box is nice for display. I don't think the box would be sturdy enough to carry around in your pocket, but suitable to display it in on a shelf. I haven't tested it for accuracy, but for display or a gift I would purchase it again.

Not sure about the inconsistent experiences on here. Mine is just as described and very well crafted. There are some good videos explaining how it works, but basically, open it up, unlock the compass needle, turn it to face north, and the shadow lines up with the time on the outer edge. In one of my pictures you can see that it indicates the time is a little after noon, which is when I took the photo. I've found it to be accurate to about 10-15 minutes, which is fine for a sun-dial. I'm not looking for atomic clock level accuracy here, especially since it will largely be ornamental. Also, that lever that you lift up on the side (on the left in the picture where I am holding it) is a protractor and is used to adjust your latitude (Declination), so, for example, if your latitude is 40 degrees north, you set the protractor to 40. I haven't really needed it since i'm not going for pin-point accuracy, but it is interesting. All in all, very happy with this purchase.

Arrived on time. This piece is absolutely gorgeous! Since I bought this as a birthday present for a friend I opted for the box purchase. Both are well crafted. The item is just beautifully detailed. Very happy customer!!

The product actually looks like it’s been used! The brass is scratched and the black numerals are smeared and fading. It’s even scratched-up underneath the lid of the dial. Also, the box is dented on the outside corner, and the inside is dirty and has some glitter stuck in certain spots too. But, the dial functions so I guess it will do the job. And since it did not arrive in time I do not want to send it back to have to wait and get another. Also, not a big deal for me, but mine does not say West London like the picture or other reviews.

I was looking to buy a compass for so long, well I finally found what I was looking for. The price of it and quality is worth it. Truly amazing.

Beautiful, solid construction on the compass and the box. Going to be a great gift.
