is there an API available to get data?

There will likely never be a public API for these devices. Due to the fact the Moen has a subscription model in place for access to all functions. For them to release a public API would defeat their overall disappointing business model with this device. Great novel device, i love the idea, don't get me wrong, this whole subscription model is going to burn out consumers sooner rather than later With the moen ecosystem being locked down the way it is, future support for the device has me concerned. these types of valves are usually in a  house for 30 years before being replaced. I do not see Moen keeping digital support for a 300 - 500 dollars niche valve supported for that long.

In the event of a pipe burst while you are away, the Flo Smart Water Shut off will send you a notification and will close the water supply automatically. The Flo by Moen app offers selectable system modes for when you are  "Home" or "Away."

Why are separate detectors needed with flo?  I thought flo would detect a leak from the water main and shut off?

It does; the extra sensors are optional and simply add an additional layer of detection. They also could detect a leak faster and shut off water immediately as they don't have to reply on an analysis of the overall water system; if it's wet, it's a leak and will tell flo to shut off water.
