When I plugged the adapter to my HDTV and IPhone the screen on my TV switched immediately to the screen on my phone. The TV does need to be in HDTV mode for the screen to show what is playing on your phone. The picture is not as clear as what my TV usually displays without the adapter but that could also be due to the not so perfect internet connection that I have when streaming movies. The picture was much clearer when it displayed the home screen of my phone which leads me to believe that the slightly unclear picture I was expierencing during the movie was my internet and not the adapter. I have used this adapter a couple of times and have not had any problems with the screen freezing up once.
