This thing works.. will it eradicate every single deer fly from your property? No. But it catches quite a bit and it’s just plain satisfying seeing them all stuck to the ball, versus biting me or my dog. Only complaint is the spray doesn’t stay sticky on the ball for more than a couple days, so need to reapply often.

What a complete joke of a product. This doesn’t do anything but attract flies and doesn’t do anything as far as catching them. Will it catch the occasional bug? Sure, but so will a piece of paper with glue on it. We were having horrible fly problems near our garbage cans. I set one of these near the vans and didn’t do anything. It snagged a couple of moths and gnats, but the flies laughed at it and buzzed around it and never flew on it. I caught maybe 5 in two weeks of it sitting outside.I set up the 2 others in different areas of my yard to see if that would help and they didn’t catch squat. Save your money, these don’t work and this thing is a joke.

Deer flies were bothering my horses so I tried these balls. We live right next to a swamp, I read their breeding ground. The 1st ball had 41 deer flies in 5 days, the 2nd ball had 26 deer flies and 1 horse fly in 3 days, the 3rd ball leaked and wouldn’t stay inflated, zero flies. Even though I sprayed the entire ball with sticky, only the top half had any stuck flies. So the deer flies are attracted to the ball somehow, maybe the shape, color or shinyness. Also collected many love bugs and one dragonfly. I think the other bugs just got blown into the ball. I’m extremely happy with the high number of deer flies collected.Update: I bought 3 more balls, 2 of them have too many deer flies to count, maybe 100. I tried one in a sunny area, not so good. I moved it back under a tree.

This is very good at catching yellow flies. It catches most of them. I wish you would catch all of them.

The concept is good. Works for deer flies and that's what I needed. My complaint are the balls. I've bought 6. 3 with a kit and 3 separately. 3 of six failed. Meaning they just deflated. They're too expensive to keep replacing. No evidence of a hole.

All you really need to do is find a supplier of black beach balls, and spray stickum on them, and you'd have the same thing for a *lot* less money, but...these are well-constructed, and work *really* well. Cuts the numbers of both deerflies and horseflies down on my property by at least 90%.p.s. I found that the black-coloured balls work well for both deerflies and horesefiles. In theory (based on the spectrum of colors the two species detect, and the relative importance of colour, heat and motion), these two fly species differentiate between black and blue, but I never found the blue-coloured balls worked particularly well. So, I use the black-coloured balls exclusively.

The coating is not sticky enough. I coated the balls liberally with the coating, then watched a deer fly land and somewhat get stuck. A few moments later, it flew away. After reading some reviews, I sprayed even more on the balls and used up the entire can yesterday. When I came home this evening, the flies were swarming the balls, but not one fly was stuck. I watched several land and fly off. The balls on the other hand seem to attract the Flys. Definitely not worth the money for these blue balls without a sticky substance on them. The spray needs work.

I’ve bought this kit every year for four years now! It lowers the amount of deer flies drastically. The balls pictured are only day 3 of trapping.Pros: traps deer flies easilyNot toxicEasy to useCons: you will need to reapply the sticky film after every rain and when the sun is beating down on the balls. I reapply weekly at minimum. I also scrape the excess flies off twice a month or so to keep the ball blue (deer flies are attracted to blue).

I have 8 of these around the yard at our cottage. It has kept the deer flies and green eyed flies down to a bearable summer during the hot days when these flies are at there peak.
