The toughest part was sanding after flattening, so be patient while cutting, and sanding will be easier. I recommend cutting one direction only, 1/64” to 1/32” deep, and not more than about 1/4 to 1/3 of the cutter diameter per pass. More than those will leave the grain “pulled” in different different directions, especially if you’re cutting hardwood end grain. Patience on cutting will save a ton of sanding. Plus, too much rough sanding also can spoil the flatness. Finally, it makes one hell of a mess! Best outdoors, with a vacuum hose jigged immediately in front of the cutter to catch the bulk of the sawdust jetting out ahead of the cutter. Patience!
