If the backpack closes easily then you should be fine. The backpack is very comfortable with an excellent padded backing and the side zip for laptops is easy to open and close while going through airport security. **Q: Is there no waist cinch to transfer the weight onto your hips? I only see a sternum strap.** A: The bag does not have a waist cinch strap. The shoulder straps are fairly wide and well padded, which makes the bag comfortable to carry when fully loaded. It is comfortable to carry when it is moderately loaded for longer periods. The back of the bag is extremely well padded and ventilates very well, making it comfortable for long durations of wear in warm climates. The overall construction material is extremely heavy-duty, and with the zippers that allow the bag to be expanded or compressed, paired with the outer cinch webbing coupled with the g-hooks, helps ensure that the load less likely to shift while carrying. I took this to Europe this past spring and it performed perfectly. The front documents pocket was great for passports/tickets/etc while going thru the airports. The outer security straps worked as expected and despite being told pickpockets were everywhere (like ninjas!) nobody messed with the pack so I can only assume they repel both pickpockets and ninjas alike!The interior is fantastic (you should use packing cubes to really make it shine) for clothes and the tech compartment for a laptop is perfect for any standard laptop (desktop replacements may not fit but its perfect for a dell xps 15 or a mac book pro 2).The only gripe I have is that if you only need a laptop, a book, and maybe a tech bag (chargers and whatnot) its going to be swimming around in the main compartment.
