Today, the works of Vincent van Gogh (1853โ1890) are among the most well known and celebrated in the world. In paintings such as Sunflowers , The Starry Night , and Self-Portrait with Bandaged Ear , we recognize an artist uniquely dexterous in the representation of texture and mood, light and place . Yet in his lifetime, van Gogh battled not only the disinterest of his contemporary audience but also devastating bouts of mental illness . His episodes of depression and anxiety would eventually claim his life, when, in 1890, he committed suicide shortly after his 37th birthday. This comprehensive study of Vincent van Gogh offers a complete catalogue of his 871 paintings , alongside writings and essays , charting the life and work of a master who continues to tower over art to this day. Review: You need this book. - This has been on my wish list for 4 years. I just couldn't justify the cost, but the price has only continued to increase. So far I love it, as I knew I would. I LOVE that there is a book mark. I didn't see it had a bookmark in the reviews so this is a an added bonus. I believe this book will be consumed in little bits over a long time and then re-read and re-read. The pages are quality paper. The print is a good size, and easy to read. And the pictures are glossy, lovely, some are large covering the whole page, showing the detail of the brush strokes. I look forward to reading what looks to be a well documented historical account of Van Gogh's life, there is great documentation of his family as well. I know I will sit for hours soaking up the artwork. I'm so glad I finally splurged and bought it. I'm thankful for the flash sale. Review: Masterpiece - the paintings in this book are awe dropping, so deatiled, and it feels like youre looking into the diary and the mind of Mr. Van Gough. Im thinking about using it as a coffee table piece as well

Beautiful Book
My wife is a Van Gogh FAN... Even teaches her 2nd graders about him and has them try and do some of his paintings...this book nearly brought her to tears... I am writing this review now, because I have no dinner to eat, because she is sitting on the couch looking at her new book. .FANTASTIC GIFT FOR ANY VAN GOGH FAN!!!

Heavy and Well built Book
I almost bought a less expensive Van Gogh book. I am glad I didnโt. This is built like a college text book. The ink used for the photographs jumps of the page at you. Bright and crisp in detail. 1853-1890 The Complete Paintings, is destined to satisfy all. This book is not just a collection of Paintings. It is readable from cover to cover. I love Biographies and this will make a wonderful addition to my Library.

Invaluable! (just don't overpay with a reseller)
If you can only get one Van Gogh book for whatever reason try to make it this one. It's a reasonable size, fantastic price and incredible production quality! You won't find those 3 selling points together ANYWHERE ELSE! If you need a painting is here conveniently cross-referenced with the other 2 main catalogues (de la Faille's and Jan Hulsker's) A comprehensive biographical overview of his years as an artist, also here along with a full chronology and an extensive bibliography about Vincent. All the important paintings are given a full page or a 2 page spreads if their dimensions require it, and except for a few of the earlier works and the B&W old photos of the woks in private collections they are printed in superb definition where every stroke and gesture of the paint is captured. My only complaint is that I personally prefer the self-portrait used on the French version of the dust jacket with the yellow spine. And yes! This is a heavy book! Shorter than an average magazine but wider and definitely ticker! But still I would recommend this size over the smaller Biblioheca Universalis edition with Starry Night on the dust jacket (the size of the Klimt in the last 2 pictures)

Small, but complete, and good quality prints.
It is thick and small, but it has the Master painter's complete works, with high quality reproductions of his work. The price was excellent. I wish they made a larger version. I would pay the extra for that, but this is a great reference.
