I also wanted something that would look nice sitting on the kitchen counter and wouldn't obviously scream "I'm full of food bits". The red of this looks really nice with the other red accents in my kitchen and it is a nice metallic. It is also a really good size slim so that it doesn't take up too much counter space and taller than I was expecting. We are a family of four and I usually end up dumping this once a week. I have had it almost two months now and have not had any problems with odors but I also do not plan to spend money on replacement filters so hopefully the smells will stay contained as the filter gets older. I have not used the bags that came with the bin but plan to save them in case I have a particularly messy item that needs to go down to the bin. They are biodegradable so they can go right into the bin as well which is nice.I ordered from the warehouse deals so the bin came with a few scratch marks but I imagine those would happen over time anyway and they are not very noticeable against the metallic red. The lid fits down nice and tight too but not so tight that you can't open it with just one hand. If I had a con is that the compostable bags are too big and hang over the edges a lot. I had to kind of tuck them in. It is a compost bucket and looks far better than the green plasitc on I used to have. Re-modeled kitchen I needed a new compost container. This fit the bill exactly.
