Once seated, worked right away
Bought this for my Dell XPS 7100 that had onboard Broadcom Gigabit Ethernet that was not working well with Win7 all of a sudden, it was taking 1-2 min. to connect by cable. Because of Dell's limited slots, I had only 1 PCI slot left, and it was a bear getting this card seated because my video card was flush against it. When it finally did seat, it worked 1st time and Windows installed a driver. Wanting to update the driver, I went to Intel's site and tried to use their software to detect the card, but it didn't work well at all (as a matter of fact, it caused my computer to crash with a blue screen and memory dump 3 times, and since I have a dual boot system, I tried it there with the same results) and for this particular card, it appears they haven't updated it for a long time and I couldn't find it listed on their website. I use DriverMax to keep all my drivers up-to-date, it's free and you can download 2 drivers per day, but you must do your homework cuz they don't always have the EXACT driver you need, sometimes its close but thankfully their rollback feature works well. I also use [...] (also free, but don't use the MediaGet feature cuz it installs a program for downloading torrents) for some drivers that I feel DriverMax doesn't always get right, but they don't always get the latest drivers for a few weeks. Case in point: I have a PCi 3.0 USB card by Iomega for extra ports and bought 2 external USB 3.0 storage drives. DriverMax has the correct driver for it, but because of the way it installs using their software, it does not always work correctly, but usually X-Driver.com will get the driver from Renesas 2-3 weeks later and it installs flawlessly. Well, anyway, back to the Intel driver, DriverMax had an update (V 8.3.15.0), but I checked with x-drivers.com, and they had a completely different set of drivers for the Gbe or PRO 1000, but not the GT specifically.

Great card, quick and easy install
Lightning killed the integrated Intel Pro 100M NIC on my wife's 2003 vintage Dell Dimension XPS. I ordered this Intel card because of all of the good reviews. I ordered the card at 5:16 A.M. Thursday and Fedex delivered it to my door at 5:30 P.M. Friday, the next day. Ten minutes later I was up and running at high speed. Thanks to the good advice I received from the good folks at Virtual Dr tech forums I had a plan of action. I disabled the integrated card in the BIOs, then I shut down and installed the new Intel card in the bottom most open PCI slot, then I booted up and when Windows detected the new hardware I put in the software disc that came with the card. Viola, I was up and running. It couldn't have been easier. The card works great.

Rad to the max.
This is a massive massive, and I can not stress this enough, MASSIVE upgrade to a base realtek network adapter found on the majority of motherboards out there today. I can keep much higher bitrates and have much lower ping despite doing several things at once and I never ping out anymore. Take for instance this: I'll be sharing 30 torrents at once and running a game online and listening to a stream in the background. I'll get 19ms ping in game, no need to refresh in the stream, and have a torrent sharing at 4MB/s with the rest at least at 100kb/s, all with 75MB u/d from my ISP, and zero hiccups. This thing manages your connection like a fricken beast. For this price it's damn worth every single penny and then some if you spend your life online like I do.

Works great with ESXi 5 after fixing the EEPROM
I purchased this card to use in a test VMware ESXi system. Since it had great reviews and others stated that it worked with ESXi, I decided to buy it. During the install of ESXi, everything went smoothly. However, when I booted the server for the first time, the card was not visible is ESXi (i.e. 'esxcfg-nics -l' only showed the on-board NIC). Reviewing the output of 'dmesg' showed this error for the new card: 'e1000: 0000:01:06.0: e1000_probe: Invalid MAC Address' I then used a bootable Ubuntu USB drive to start the server so that I could further diagnose the issue. Running 'ifconfig -a' showed the card to have the following MAC: 01:01:00:00:06:a2. This is an invalid MAC address according to ESXi, I believe because of the first octet, and it does not match the MAC address printed on the card. Fortunately, this was a simple fix using a package called 'ethtool.' This will not be extremely detailed and is probably not for beginners, but you can do the following to fix the issue: 1) Run 'ethtool -e eth0 | head -n 3', which will dump out a couple of header rows and then a line of hex. The first six bytes of the hex output should show the currently configured MAC address. 2) Run the following to replace the invalid MAC address with the MAC address printed on the card (e.g. 00:07:e9:01:02:03). # ethtool -E eth0 magic 0x017c8086 offset 0x0 value 0x00 # ethtool -E eth0 magic 0x017c8086 offset 0x1 value 0x07 # ethtool -E eth0 magic 0x017c8086 offset 0x2 value 0xe9 # ethtool -E eth0 magic 0x017c8086 offset 0x3 value 0x01 # ethtool -E eth0 magic 0x017c8086 offset 0x4 value 0x02 # ethtool -E eth0 magic 0x017c8086 offset 0x5 value 0x03 3) If you run 'ethtool -e eth0 | head -n 3' again, the first six bytes should show the new MAC address. 4) Reboot the server and ESXi and the new card should be able to get an IP address now. In short, I am guessing that this card is a refurbished item and that the refurbish process did not include resetting the EEPROM. At least it was a simple fix, but I still only gave the product 4-stars because of this issue.

Will not work with 64bit PC with more than 3gb memory
Very easy installation, quality looks good, Windows 7 recognized it instantly and installed the drivers without issue. However this adapter would not connect to our router, a fairly new router at that. After hours of checking and rechecking every possible problem, I stumbled across the answer. This LAN adapter will not work properly with a Windows 7 64bit PC with more than 3gb memory. Once I pulled 1gb of memory, viola! We were up and running. We are returning this one and trying a different manufacture. Sadly becuase quality on this Intel LAN looked good. This review is in case anyone else is experiencing the same problems.

EASY Upgrade - Definitely speeds up old computer system!
I'm always leery when upgrading computers, especially when you're going to replace an original component. Especially older computers where one component doesn't meet the latest standard that you weren't aware of, or upgrading one component doesn't help because there's another bottleneck with one of the other components. You know the drill - all of a sudden you're up a creek without a paddle and nothing works, you can't connect to the internet, can't even boot sometimes. What should be a 10 minute upgrade in many cases turns into 4+ hours, in many cases because of some little issue that wasn't clearly explained or documented. In this case, upgrading to the Intel Pro/1000 GT Gigabit NIC in my 2004 era Dell Dimension 4600 REALLY WAS only 10 minutes. Very easy, no hassles. Well, actually 30 minutes because I'm paranoid and read these reviews for advice before actually pulling the switch. Here's the drill (Dell Dimension 4600 with original on-board 10/100 NIC, running XP Pro): 1.) Make sure you have the driver CD that came with the package ready. 2.) Unplug the power from your computer (and disconnect all other devices so you can open the box). 3.) Open the computer, remove the back cover plate from 1 of the empty PCI slots (you do have 1 empty PCI slot right?), and then shove this network card (firmly) into the PCI slot. Screw it down with the screw from the cover plate (that you can now throw away). 4.) Close the computer and plug everything back in (remember to plug your ethernet wire into your brand new Gigabit NIC (not the old one), LOL. 5.) Turn on your computer. After Windows has loaded, etc., insert the driver CD that came with the package and let it do its thing. It will automatically find the new hardware and install the appropriate driver. 6.) Voila, you're done! *NOTE: I did NOT have to de-activate, disable, or do anything with the original on-board 10/100 NIC. Now I surf at noticeably faster speeds! I noticed an improvement in internet performance when I upgraded my router and switch to Gigabit, and now a big jump in speed as soon as I installed this Gigabit NIC. Next step is to upgrade my internet service from 25 Mbps to 100Mbps now that my infrastructure is ready! I suspect once I upgrade all my computers to 2012 era machines I'll see even greater speeds. If you have doubts like I did about whether this upgrade can help speed up your internet, don't worry it definitely makes things faster. Even with 2004 - 2006 era PC's, as long as all of your other components are Gigabit ready, you WILL notice a definite improvement when surfing the net. In fact, for $30 I'm going to upgrade the NIC in all of my older computers. NOTE that my current network includes a Gigabit router, Gigabit switch, and Cat 5 (4 pair) cabling. So everything is Gigabit ready. And yes you do get Gigabit network speeds over Cat 5 cable - as long as you have good 4 pair Cat 5 and all connections are terminated properly. You may not get quite as good performance as Cat 5e or 6 if you have a lot of electrical interference or very long runs, but for almost all home applications your Cat. 5 wire will give you a Gigabit network just like Cat 5e or Cat 6.

works great if you plug it in all the way!
Works perfectly on my Dell Dimension 9100, Intel Pentium 4 Processor 630, running Windows XP. Plug and play... once I plugged the card in all the way ;-) !!! Needed to replace a faulty OEM integrated ethernet port when I upgraded to FIOS router. Was getting by on a USB connection with old DSL modem. Being a technonumnutz I was willing to pay a premium to minimize hastle, and I needed a card that would work 32 or 64 bit since I was not certain which I had. I share my particular challenges for anyone as incompetent as myself: first had to remove an unused fax card to open up a slot second failed to plug in the card all the way. I mention this because the system diagnostics showed the card working fine, but interestingly listed it as a different card! After nothing else worked I took the cover off and reinserted the card again. Problem solved.

Intel N/w Adapter
[...] I have struggled with VMware ESXi installation. I have AMD Phenom II X6 1090T processor with ASUS cross-hair motherboard. The built-in LAN card doesn't supported by VMware. I also tried with the D Link Gigabyte Ethernet card and No luck. Finally in Amazon I found the Intel Gigabyte Ethernet adapter and from the review I found its working fine with VMware ESX/ESXi. Once I receive the order I inserted my new LAN adapter and started installing VMware ESXi and completed the installation without any issue. I strongly recommend this product for those planning to go for VMware ESX/ESXi Operating System. Best price as well. Krishna

Diese Netzwerkkarte ist absolut top! Sie hat "neu" einschließlich Versand hier nur 18,99 EUR gekostet. Ich habe dann nach Erhalt einfach nur den PC-Seitendeckel geöffnet, diese PCI-Karte in den entsprechenden Slot gesteckt, das Slotblech mit einer Schraube fixiert, dann den PC hochgefahren und in den Gerätetreiber geschaut. Der Netzwerkadapter war ohne Fehler eingetragen. Hinweis Gerätestatus: „Das Gerät funktioniert einwandfrei“. Der Treiber ([System Windows 10], Microsoft Vers. 8.4.13.0 vom 23.03.2010) hatte sich also direkt beim Hochfahren selbst installiert. Innerhalb von wenigen Minuten war alles erledigt. Die Intel-Karte hat ja keinen eigenen Treiber mit dabei, aber dieser ist eben nicht erforderlich.

Works great with unRAID and multichannel SMB
Works great with unRAID on an old motherboard with a PCI slot. The intel chipset is flawless, works very well underload unlike RealTek RTL8111 chips which were causing IRQ issues in unRAID.

Buona scheda compatibile con vmware
Scheda classica PCI che però viene riconosciuta perfettamente da vsphere 4. Della stessa serie ora ci sono anche alternative pci express, ma questa è una scelta sicura.

Je cherchais une carte avec des performances acceptables, reconnue par ESXi 5.1 et peu couteuse. Celle ci remplit totalement mes exigences.
