Just like Vaseline, but no smell. I use it on my lips. I have also used it on really dry skin on my face as well. I get allergic reactions to chap sticks/lip gloss. This ointment is the best!! I even let my toddler use it for dry lips. **Q: Is it normal for the ointment to smell like plastic/rubber?** A: There IS an odor to it just because it has ingredients. The petrolatum and wax does have a smell to it. It is normal. Even though I did my best to protect the swollen area it did burst. I decided to return to my dermatologist ad the area was red and ugly. I was told to constantly use an ointment on the area until "new skin" developed. I was provided with a sample of Vaniply Ointment. I used this as instructed and when it ran out I purchased more on Amazon. The Vaniply Ointment is not oily and properly protected the area. I am very pleased with the results and highly recommend.
