The BEST Headphones I've Ever Auditioned In-Home YET!!! HIGHLY Recommended!!!!!!!!!!!!
After a week of comparing these to the Mitchell & Johnson MJ2s, I decided to go with the Beyers!! The MJ2s are also incredible. Both were the most expensive headphones I've auditioned in-home yet, and both are worth their weight in GOLD! But even though I loved the engaging sound of the MJ2s, I felt the 1770 was also quite engaging and fun, but it also had a fantastic soundstage as well. Not TOO wide, but wider than the MJ2's. Of course, I could get upgraded ear pads for the MJ2s, but then that would kill another strong point they have going that the Beyers don't........extra portability. The MJ2s fold in and come with a pretty compact egg-shaped box. From what I've read, these upgraded pads make it impossible to fold the MJ2s in, which negates their portability factor. I will admit that the MJ2s over time didn't seem as uncomfortable with the stock pads as I originally perceived, but I still wanted a bit more space and more soundstage (which of course results in better instrument separation). So the 1770s just made more sense! The DT-1770 Pros are built TO LAST and look gorgeous! The outer ear cups are made up of a high-grade plastic which looks really nice, and it has a little bit of plastic on the sides where the headband adjusters begin. But other than that, they are all metal and a GENUINE leather headband! The pads are velour (default) and leatherette/pleather. Several pro reviewers agreed that the leatherette ones sound much better, so you wanna switch to them IMO. The velours might be slightly more comfortable though? My final take on these two is..........if portability is a big deal for you, you can't go wrong with the MJ2s. Like the DT-1770s, they are crystal clear and VERY detail-revealing! But if you don't mind a bigger headphone (but still portable, IMO), I feel you get the very best sound from the 1770s. The Tesla 2.0 drivers are great and can get pretty loud despite the 250-ohm impedance rating. The MJ2's special brand of electrostatic drivers are fantastic too! A few notes: With regards to the Beyers, I decided to get the shorter 4' braided replacement cable off Amazon as I felt 10' was way too long on the stock one. It will come in today. With regards to the ear pads, I've now ordered not one but TWO different replacement ear pads! I will evaluate both and then post my thoughts next week. The first one is the hybrid inner velour/outer sheepskin leather Dekoni pads (eBay), and then I found out that Dekoni also has an ALL sheepskin leather ear pad for all the Beyers headphones too, so ordered that as well off Amazon. I should have both by Monday or sooner. I will update this review next week. Although the leatherette pads are pretty comfortable, I still wanted a little more comfort, which is why I ordered the 2 different replacement pads. **UPDATE: I ended up going with the Dekoni Audio Elite Sheepskin Leather Ear Pads for Beyerdynamic DT Series Headphones. Better isolation, which results in better bass too. And definitely more comfortable than the stock leatherette pads as well.**

Excellent closed back headphones.
Headphones excellent. Great value for the price paid. Very , very well made headphones. Superb sound for closed backs( with bit of eq) with good tonal balance.

Just amazing! Best closed back headphone...when it works properly
This Beyerdynamic DT 1770 Pro are just incredible. The build quality is outstanding. The sound is...super detailed and precise. The imaging is just OMG. The soundstage is HUGE, probably the best soundstage of any closed back headphone and even a lot of open back. But is not only wide and deep, is also super precise. If you buy this headphone try the song RedLine OST Europass on YouTube. Man at the end of the song you CAN FEEL the sound coming precisely from the front, right in front of you like if you have speakers in front of you. The highs never go too far. The mids are clear and crystalline pure. The tonality you get from this headphone is just amazing. The bass is powerful but tight and controlled. Just perfect. To me this is the perfect headphone because has all this performance and is a closed back. The isolation with the velour pads is amazing. I imagine with the leather pads will be even better but I prefer velour since has better soundstage and more than enough isolation. Man finally! I say finally because i ordered this three times, the first two times the headphones had clear signs that they weren't brand new or at least the box came really beated up. This time is just perfect, brand new with no damage whatsoever. I tell you guys this headphone is amazing. Oh oh i almost forgot the most important thing, the comfort is amazing. The clamping force is a little bit strong but the velour pads makes this a very very very comfortable experience. Typical beyerdynamic. People if you are looking for a headphone that can be your only headphone for everything, gaming, music listening, watching movies, pro work, this is it. I don't think you can find all this qualities in another headphone at the same time. I just love this. This is the last headphone i will buy in a long time. Hope this helps. UPDATE: I'm lowering the score from 5 stars to 3 stars because my first and second pair have been defective after some usage. The first and second pair developed distortion and a very audible ringing when heavy bass music is played. I have another pair of headphones, way cheaper than this one and that one doesn't have any ringing or distortion when heavy bass music is played. Also after listening for sometime and carefully...I think there's very little difference between this 500 dollars headphones and my other 200 dollar pair so...I'm done with this particular headphone. This is my 4th order, the first two orders I didn't even open the box because they arrive with clear signs that they weren't brand new. Also the box came really beated up. And now the two pairs that I got to try have that problem with the driver. I'm done but man when this works, is just the best sound I have ever heard. Update: Beyerdynamic has corrected the issues with the latest batch of DT 1770 Pro. The one I receive recently is AMAZING. Even the pads look newer and better. I think even the build quality has improved. I'm updating this review back to 5 stars. After listening to this headphone again is like ahhhh this sound sooo good.

Molto soddisfatto.

Once in my hands I could feel the quality, sadly the quality and build of the headphone did not live up to potential. Dismiss all the 5 Star reviews as these are horrible headphones and I feel like they actually damaged my hearing. First we start with the lows, muddy and slightly one tone. The mid's are almost nonexistent, I was listening to Out of Touch by John and Oats, so much was missing, I swapped to my M40x's with ZMF cowhide pads and I was amazed at the clarity of the M40x. I could actually hear the guitar in my right ear slightly in front of me, while the DT 1770 Pro was so overpowered by the muddy bass and the piercing vocals it made it hard to hear the guitar. The Treble is the worst thing about this headphone. I tried to love this headphone, The build quality, the beautiful design, but I was let down by the sound, arguably the most important factor of a professional headphone. My M40x's were a breath of fresh air after listening to these painful headphones. Unless you like your ears bleeding dont get these. I was one those people who didn't believe in the reviews about the harsh Beyer treble, don't be like me, get something actually good like Meze 99 Noir's, HD6XX's, M40x's, Argon MK3's, etc.

Bought with my own cash money. Update IV --- 23/2/16 --- Ditched the A20 as treble detail was a little bit lacking and the bass had a tendency to be slightly overwhelming (only a tad - but enough to cause brain annoyance!) which I'm putting down to the power output of the amplifier as I had a similar issue with my high output tube amp. I preferred the sound signature of the DT1770's plugged straight into my iPad but it didn't go loud enough on some recordings and lacked some body (Brilliant for modern well mastered tracks so if that's your bag - you don't need an amp!). I've since switched to the Oppo HA-2 which has a good clean neutral sound and with its low gain switch the bass is once again perfect and no loss of any resolution whatsoever. Killer combo. Keeper for Defo (and no more updates!!). Update III --- 25/12/15 ---- Now paired with Beyerdynamic A20 Amplifier - Just Wow! Really opens these babies up! I thought they were great without an amp and even better when paired with my Fiio E12a but paired with the A20 these are sublime. Expensive but worth it (Someone burgled my house xmas eve and took my Sony MDR-Z7 but left my Beyers! Silver lining and all that!). Update II --- 23/11/15 --- After more research (and reading Dale Thorns review - who I usually agree with) I found out that these may not match well with tube amps so bought them again and paired them with my Fiio E12A and these are like a different headphone. Maybe my original pair had a slight driver mismatch but the boomy bass and slightly distant mids along with a slightly higher volume in the left ear have all been rectified with this pair! I've been amazed that these have such powerful deep bass when its present on a recording but when the track doesn't have any bass these stay faithful to the original recording and don't add any extra colouring. Truly amazing and not something I have heard on any other headphone. So glad I tried them again! Although the DT150's are still amazing value for money I think I will be keeping the DT1770's and retiring my tube amp. Update --- 6/11/15 ---- Now sold! After Extensive A/B testing against my £96 Beyer DT150 250 ohm through my Littledot II MKII tube amp I've come to the conclusion that there isn't enough difference to justify the extra £350. I've EQ'd the mid bass down a few Db and this has brought the tanklike DT150's to life. I was amazed at the difference it made. Plus the Mids are more present on the DT150's which is a shame as I wanted to love the 1770's but they just didn't do it for me to justify keeping them. Original review --- Having lived with the DT770 250 ohm for years I was on the fence about these given the higher price but I finally bit the bullet and they certainly are exquisite. Build quality is always top notch with Beyer but these have an added layer of luxury to the usual utilitarian materials and styling. Hifiguy 528 (Hifi insider) Mike on YouTube had it right when he said the DT770's feel like a toy next to these! Check his unboxing for a peek at all the bits n bobs and the materials etc. I usually love neutral headphones with a bit of oomph (Oppo PM3 are the stand out ones for me) but I've always loved the bass on my DT770's as it just thunders through my bones with an amp. What I've never loved is the extremely bright treble. Sure it's great for detail but the Oppo PM3 showed me you could still have the treble detail without the sibilant peaks that the DT770/880/990 line is infamous for. I always found myself EQ'ing the Mids up slightly on the 770's with their V-shaped sound signature. And basically the DT1770 addresses all these issues for me. You get all the Bass loveliness of the 770's but with a more present midrange and a perfect treble (to my ears). I've seen some reviewers say that even the 1770 has a peaky treble but I don't see how that can be the case! It's just right and very welcome! The bass also has more texture on the 1770's (something I had never heard before! Bass texture!? But yep you can get a real sense of it with these). But are they worth the price hike? Well as always it's subjective but if for whatever reason you're like me and can't use open backs then these I reckon are as close as you can get to a high end open back sound in closed back form and still keep the price below £500! The sound stage is certainly very 'open' for a closed back can and certainly not as congested as the Oppo PM3's. What's more these being Tesla drivers they are extremely efficient and run to substantial listening levels straight out of my IPhone 5s despite them being 250 ohm (a hell of a lot louder than my 770 250 ohm anyway! Weird!). I've now got them running through my LittkeDot II MKII Tube amp and they sound great. Hope some of this helps. Stew
