Cisco Networking Essentials

This book is well written and a great resource for any who work or want to learn more about Networking.

Good book to have.

I recently explored the Cisco Networking Essentials course, and it provides a solid foundation for anyone new to networking. The course covers the basics thoroughly, including essential networking concepts, protocols, and Cisco equipment. It’s well-structured and offers a clear introduction to networking principles, which is perfect if you’re starting from scratch. The practical exercises and real-world scenarios are particularly useful. They help in applying theoretical knowledge and give you a better understanding of how networking principles work in practice. If you’re aiming for a Cisco certification or just want to bolster your networking skills, this course is a good starting point. However, for those looking for advanced networking concepts or more in-depth material, this course might feel a bit basic. It’s designed to be accessible and introductory, so while it’s excellent for beginners, it may not delve deeply into more complex topics or provide extensive hands-on labs.

Great book, I compared the topic of this book with the Cisco requirements for CCENT certification exam and all topics are covered. Beyond the CCENT exam, this book is an excellent foundation to build on a career in networking.

This is an excellent primer on the fundamentals of designing, managing, and maintaining a network. It starts with the basics of network topologies and moves on to more advanced topics such as applying the OSI model and Firewall installation. The chapter on Cisco IOS is especially handy, since it provides a quick reference for commonly used command props. I usually leave that chapter open when I use Packet Tracer (Cisco’s free software to virtually emulate their networking equipment). Although each chapter ends with a quiz, I wish there was more incorporation of information pertaining directly to the CCENT or CCNA certifications. If you purchase this book in preparation for a exam, I’d strongly recommend you also purchase a separate exam guide.

This is a great read for anyone looking to purchase, some of the technologies may have changed ,however the convenance of idea by the author makes this book a positive addition to a technophile

I haven't had a chance to read too much of this book, as I am stilling consuming a large portion of the Cisco Press ICND1 book. I did, however, read the entire first edition of this book and it was great. This book is no different. This is an excellent book for someone who is very new to networking and Cisco. If you take your time to read and comprehend everything you definitely will learn new knowledge from this book.

A really good book that compliments the Cisco networking course online. The glossary has not left any terms out, so everything is easy to find when needed.

With my new job I had to gain some common understanding into networking. Not being an IT expert or someone with a degree in computer science, did I come across this book. Language and content is something nearly anybody is able to understand who has been working in the IT space for a while learning the language but without a technical background. This book has added explanations and details to vocab I have known before and deepened my knowledge in networking to understand the overall technical concepts. I would recommend this book to anybody working in customer service or sales in larger IT companies whose products are related to networking, to get a broad overview.

Feels like a good quality printing. It's relatively large, and very informative. I needed this for an into networking course and found that it was very informative. It's also very dense with information, so many parts may take multiple reads, but there is a lot to learn from this book.

Its really well structured and explained. And actually quite an confy read, even though it basically covers the CCENT half (ICND1) of the CCNA. I would still recommend also studying from another source though, such as the official Cisco CCNA book. Can also be recommended as Pre-prep for CCNA (read it before the REAL study period begins) - it would make life a lot easier for you, and for people just interested in Network Administration in general, with some of the Cisco particulars (which are still quite useful) Also - the kindle edition is in 2nd edition, and quite well edited.
