desertcart.com: Newsies Review: I Can't Get Enough of These Voices and Songs - Extra! Extra! Alan Menken knows how to write songs for the screen and musical stage. He has created a series of singable and hummable tunes that make up the core of Newsies. Starting with the Disney film that became a cult classic in the '90's, and adding a new book by Harvey Fierstein, he has written new songs that brought the Newsies that appears now on Broadway to a new level and makes it a more satisfying story than that offered in the original film version. With Jeremy Jordan in the role of head Newsie Jack Kelly, backed up by a talented ensemble of singing and dancing Newsies and support characters, this original Broadway album is something I keep listening to over and over. I can't get the songs out of my head. The two versions of "Santa Fe" are gut-wrenchingly beautiful. "Sieze the Day," "King of New York," "Carrying the Banner," and "Something to Believe In" are all beautifully realized. Until you can get to Broadway to see this show live, the cast album is a good way to catch Newsies fever, or to refresh the images and sounds in your head if you have been lucky enough to see the show live. Review: What an unexpected pleasure - Nothing but good things to say about this product (which is an excellent memento of the Broadway show)!! The solo singing is outstanding across the board, with Jeremy Jordan in top form. The songs by Alan Menken grow on you with each listen. The conducting is vigorous, but still sensitive to the tone of each song, just like for the stage. The chorus work is nothing short of fantastic. And, as is typical with Disney, the sound recording quality is superb; no distortion, a true reflection of voice and instruments. This is, alongside "Catch Me If You Can," the best recorded cast album of the last year or so. Even if you hated the movie (and who didn't), this musical recording is a great addition to any collection of musicals. It may not be "high art," but so what; it's fun, and beautifully performed.

Great Story, Great Music, Great Actors
Jeremy Jordan plays Jack (the lead) and he is just amazing. His performance of Santa Fe just makes the song that much better. (I watched the TV show "Smash" because of him, although he's only in the second season, and he is just as awesome in that. And it's a pretty darn good show. If anyone is looking for more Jeremy like I was, I highly recommend it.) Anyway, I haven't seen the "Newsies" movie, so I can't compare it to that. This is a great album to tap your foot and sing along too, even if you're unfamiliar with the show or film. Here are my favorite tracks: Santa Fe I Never Planned on You/Don't Come a-Knocking The World Will Know Watch What Happens King Of New York Something to Believe In Highly recommend!

Great!
I bought this after being ‘drafted’ to play several parts in our local community theater. I loved the play and the music so had to have the soundtrack. Very well performed and recorded.

LOOVE LOVE LOVEE
I cant stop listening to this! Newsies is my favorite musical and the soundtrack does not disappointed. However, I was a little disappointed about how long it took to ship. But, in the end, I received it and I'm happy. :-)

Amazing Soundtrack!
I first got hooked on Newsies when my middle school social studies teacher showed it to us. It is now one of my favorite movies so I couldn't wait to see the play on Broadway. I saw the play and it was unbelievable. I got home and instantly ordered this cd which is all i have been listening to for the past 2 weeks. There is a few songs that were specially written and not in the movie. Also most of the songs from the movie have been tweaked a bit but they are still recognizable. The last thing I would say is to realize that this is the ORIGINAL Broadway cast recording. The play has been out for almost 2 years now and about half of the cast has changed since the recording including the 2 main characters. That being said it is very difficult to tell the difference unless you really paid attention. Highly recommend this recording!

This is my favorite musical of all time
I had never even heard of Newsies until I decided to audition for it on a whim since I wanted to get back into doing theatre. I almost backed out of the audition and I'm SO GLAD I didn't! Once I bought the Broadway soundtrack and started listening to it in the car I fell in love with this and now it's my favorite musical of all time. It is completely worth it to own a physical copy of the CD, not just digital. It's a great play and the music itself is perfect for when I need an upbeat soundtrack to get myself more energized. I wish I could have had the honor of seeing it on Broadway, but I had never even heard of it until well after it was long gone. I'm very grateful this recording of the original cast exists.

Uplifting Music! Great harmonies, lyrics, beat, everything!
This is the soundtrack of the Disney movie baised on the Newspaper Boys' strike in 1898. The music is phenomenal and very uplifting! It's very catchy and powerful. There are some awesome songs included that are moving and emotional, but at the same time fun and inspiring. My personal favorite is Seize the Day, whose lyrics will echo through the ages: Now is the time to seize the day Send out the call and join the fray Wrongs will be righted If we're united Let us seize the day! There are many other amazing songs that will roll around in your mind for days: King of New York, Carrying the Banner, Santa Fe, The World Will Know, and many others. Not only that, this CD is a bargain! Your biggest problem will be getting the lyrics out of your head - this soundtrack is addictive!

Foot-tapping great tracks
After seeing this show in its opening season on Broadway (December 2012), we just had to get the soundtrack. In true Disney style, the music is an absolute infusion of fun, sadness, energy and frivolity, all in one. Hats (or caps) off (as ever) to Alan Menken who has created yet another absolute masterpiece which ought to entertain the whole family for generations to come. A great fun musical with some sound moral messages.

Five Stars
One of my favourite musicals. Disney never seems to miss the mark. Jeremy Jordan did a great job.
