Within 20 minutes of receiving this scanner, I had it updated with the most recent software update and was scanning data from my 2005 Cadillac DeVille. The system on this scanner was easy to navigate and understand. It doesn't just give you the codes, it also has a help feature to give you some ideas of what exactly could be causing the codes. The live info it displays is accurate, matching the information on my car's display menus, only it fluctuates more because it has more of a "real time" reading than the car's display menus. I was able to read vehicle speed, engine rpms, coolant temperature, and even information about the fuel system. I couldn't be more pleased. It also has a lot of other features I didn't mention because my vehicle doesn't support the features. I got this on sale for $31, but even for $45.99 regular price, it's still worth every penny for the at-home DIY mechanic, or even if you just want to save money on diagnostic readings before taking it to your local shop/dealer.

I bought this unit to to get an upgrade that I can use at home and on vacations. The unit came intact and in good shape. The instructions were minimal so I had to download the manual from the internet to truly understand all the features. The unit has a 42 inch extension cord which is helpful in reviewing the reader information while sitting in the drivers seat. I plugged it into my Honda Odyssey and it was easy to use, showing that all emission controls and monitors were operating satisfactorily. Overall I'm happy with the purchase and it should serve the purpose I had intended it for in the future.

I am not a professional auto mechanic. Like many other people, I don't want to have to run to the dealer or auto supply shop every time I see the check engine light come on. Because I have older cars it comes on a lot. I've borrowed a low-end reader from my friend, but it doesn't do much more than give me a code and reset the check engine light. This Launch reader is a great improvement over that. It does everything the other tool does, plus more, but also provides valuable on-screen information to help me understand what the codes mean, so I don't need to go running to my computer to look online. The software is more sophisticated than I need. It has a well written 50 page online manual. You can find the link to this in many of the other posts. The connector cable is long enough that I can actually sit in the car or stand up next to it and don't need to crouch on the floor to read the display. The reader software can be updated online. You need to install an application and plug the reader into your PC using the provided USB cable. The update process was very easy, but you don't have to update the software to use the tool. However, I do like the idea of being able to keep the software updated so I can take advantage of future improvements when they are available.

They give you a website address where you can get the files you need to update the device. Only one problem, the website is dead so no updates.

Now this isn't full size diagnostic station that can check every sensor and component on you vehicle like the professionals use at dealership repair shops, or the major automotive repair shops that provide total and complete assessments with most likely components that need to be repaired or replaced, but for the at home mechanic, this isn't bad. It will identify your vehicle codes and provide a very good list of possible components that need to be repaired or replaced to clear your codes. This reader identified the MAP sensor as one of the likely issues that needed attention along with the cam position sensor. The local parts stores don't even show my vehicle as having a MAP sensor. Guess what. There is a MAP sensor and Ford has built the map sensor into the EGR valve. Leave it to the engineers to make a mess of things. I searched online for possible fixes for the codes I got with other readers but nowhere did it show the MAP/EGR or cam position sensor as likely problem. This tool gave me the most likely causes correctly. Replaced cam sensor position sensor and the EGR/MAP sensor and it cleared the codes. Once you get the codes downloaded all you have to do is press ? button and it gives a list of components that can make this code occur. The reader comes with a 5 years warranty and lifetime of updates. For the price you pay for this reader, the time, money and effort you will save is priceless.
