great child seat
this is a great buy! there is a lot of protection for the child's head and sides incase of a fall. the front bar is great to have, although it's not secure so the child (if old enough) will have no problem pulling it up. the pads on the sides aren't very secure either and although they stay in place because of their stiffness, my daughter likes to pull them off from the sides. it does recline and this is nice because if it didn't i doubt i would like it. we keep it in the reclined position always. it is very easy to install onto the bike rack and also easy to take off. it is also very secure! it is very light weight and can easily be carried with one hand. the seat belt is not as secure as i would like. probably because of it's small width. there are 3(?) adjustment holes for it. when we got it our daughter was about 1, and if i remember correctly, we had to put the adjustment to the highest level. our daughter is a tall girl, but not that tall. it is much sturdier than the cheaper child's bike seats you can buy at like walmart and like i said, much more protection around the head and sides! for your childs safety, this is worth the price. this is a great buy. our daughter is 2 and she still fits very easily in it. we'll be using this for all of our kids, as long as it holds up, which i'm sure it will :)

Firsthand account of just how SAFE this keeps your child!
Today, after clipping a bush on a bumpy sidewalk, I lost balance and my bike fell on it's side with me on it and my 13 mos old in the Co-Pilot. I struggled to gain balance, but couldn't and took the brunt of the fall on my knee and my poor twisted back. After a panic, I jumped up and quickly assessed my toddlers condition. There she sat snuggly in the Co-Pilot, with her pink bunny Giro Infant Helmet (which I also highly recommend) without a clue that anything was wrong. The seat's lap bar and harness held her in place and not a single inch of her came near the pavement. Thank God! She just looked at me like I was crazy. LOL! So despite a funky installation manual and some tweaking to accommodate the bike I had, this product is worth every penny. Its' comfy, quality, safety and ease of use are worth 5 stars. I hope no one else has to learn that the way I did though! Ha.

Assembly/Installation NIGHTMARE!
Please, listen to the previous reviewers who talked about the difficulty in installing this seat. If you are not a bicycle mechanic, you really are better off finding a professional to do this for you. I say that after having spent the last 6 six hours or so working on this, and even though I have now successfully installed this seat and reassembled my bike, I don't trust that the bike wheel, gears, and brakes are all back the way they should be and I'm going to end up taking the whole shebang to a bike shop for them to check it anyway. Should have just paid them to do it up front and saved myself the aggravation. Having said that, the seat looks to be comfortable and safe and a good product. Quality of seat: 5 stars. Ease of installation: 1 star....I used the average of those two scores to come up with my three star rating. Note: It's now a couple of hours since I posted that review. I just tried to remove the seat from the bracket so I can load the bike in my car to take it to the shop tomorrow. I came a hair's breath away from slicing off the tip of my thumb in the process, and consider myself lucky to have only a bruised and swollen thumb that will probably lose its nail. Be careful of the front safety latch and sliding the seat off. And for sure don't let your kids anywhere near it. Now bumping my rating down to two stars and seriously regretting ever thinking about putting a seat on my bike....

Nice seat - really hard to install
I have this seat as well as the iBert (front mounted) bike seat. One of the big pros of this seat is that I feel it's a little safer because of the high back and sides. (knock on wood) I've never been in an accident or had the bike fall with one of my girls on the bike, but if we were, I feel that they would be fairly well protected. Another pro is the fairly high weight limit (40 pounds) and that it is very roomy. My 3 year old fits in it with no problem. I will say that we removed the adjustable feet height thingies because with them in, there wasn't enough width in the space for their shoes. The biggest downside of this seat is the installation. It is a big pain. On the upside, the rack that the seat snaps into can be used for other things once you're done with the seat. Another upside is that if you have multiple bikes, you can install the rack on each of them, and pop the seat from one bike to another with no problem. For instance, in a two parent household where each parent has a bike. But that rack is a nightmare to install. It took me multiple hours to get it on the first bike. The second went slightly faster because I'd done it once, but since it was a different bike, it had some different issues, and it was still over an hour to get it on, plus I had to get extenders for the metal brackets, which my neighbor also had to do with one of his installs, each of which was lengthy, too. So definitely set aside some time for this install. In other words, don't tell your kid, "Oh, the bike seat is here! Let me put it on real quick and we'll go for a bike ride!" All of that being said, it is a nice seat, and we like it, and I'd have no problem recommending it to anyone.

Great seat, better than the standard taxi seat.
I consider myself fairly handy with tools, but installing this seat was much harder than I thought. The mediocre instructions are the culprit. Once I did install it, all the trouble was worth it as it is very sturdy and keeps my son safely secured. I was going to buy the slightly lower price model, but the extra features of this one really make a difference. The higher side protection and the bar protector really keep him in place even when he gets squirmy in an area where I can't pull over right away. I bought this during winter so it's only now that I've been able to take it for a spin a few times. Just remember to adjust how you ride to compensate for the extra weight in the back. Basically if you stand to pedal, lean forward more than you normally would.

Careful!! Does NOT work for all Bicycles even though the packaging says it does.
This seat works great once installed. It is very comfortable for the child (my 2 year old fell asleep in it on the first trip out). Very secure with harness, foot straps and a pull down horizontal bar that then locks in place so I felt very comfortable with it. Balance is good. Rode 10 miles first trip out and had no problems. Buyer Beware!!!! My one complaint has to do with the included bike rack. If you have a mountain bike with disc brakes and quick release, it simply doesn't work!!! I only found this out after receiving the item and realizing there is no way for the Blackburn Expedition Plus rack included to be installed. After doing some additional research on the problem I found that Blackburn now sells a different version of their rack (look for Blackburn rack for Disc Brakes) that is meant for bikes with disc brakes but that is not what is included in the co-pilot box. So, I was able to purchase the modified rack on Amazon for $60 and at least get the seat installed but I feel cheated in that I feel like I paid twice for a rack for the seat (assuming the price of the seat would be less if it didn't include the rack). It would be especially useful for the co-pilot people to make it very clear their included rack doesn't work with all bikes but their box actually says "Seat and Rack works with virtually all Bicycles"!!!! Talk about false adverstising. Very disappointed in this aspect of the seat but the seat itself is great.

Worthless, useless, horrible installation manual
It earns 1 star because my daughter has at least enjoyed sitting in the seat on the ground, in the living room, while I've been cursing at this inane manual. I have not actually achieved anything close to installation of this seat, and I'm not too hopeful at the moment. It astounds me that in the age of the Internet, graphic design, information design, etc. that any company can build a (seemingly) quality product and accompany it with such a disastrous instructional manual. And I've installed IKEA, so I know crappy instructions! Seriously folks. How about a couple of photos of actually installing it on, you know, a bike? How about a website with a video or two? How about a definition of the parts that are included and what the hell they are for? The instructions for installing it are literally not much more than "Step 1: Install it onto your bike". I'm not kidding, it's that bad. If anyone at the company reads this, just consider that while my daughter is literally in the other room wearing her new bike helmet in anticipation of the ride that we're *not* about to take, I am so pissed that I dropped what I was doing to sit at the computer and give this product this review. That's how bad your instructions are. Might want to think about that.

Bought a second one for autistic grandchild.
We had originally bought this seat last year for our then three-year-old grandchild, who is now 4 years old. She fits in it nicely with plenty of room to spare and loves riding in it. We decided to buy a second one this year for our autistic three-year-old granddaughter. This granddaughter had trouble riding on the back of our bikes for any length of time in her previous bicycle seat. Since we have gotten her this seat, she loves to ride on our bikes without any complaints. In fact, she will fuss when we stop riding. This seat is very sturdy and extremely comfortable and safe. It is well worth the money. We have not been disappointed. My husband installed both seats without any problems. My bike is an old-fashioned style with the white wall tires and big fenders. My husband's bike is the 10-speed kind. Both went on without any problems.
