Electrohome Karaoke Machine Portable Speaker System CD+G/MP3+G Player with 3.5" Video Screen, 2 Microphone Connections, Singing Music, & AUX Input for Smartphones, Tablets, & MP3 Players (EAKAR535)

My husband and I have a much older model Karaoke Machine that we purchased for our children many years ago. Our grandchildren love to play with it, so when my eight (8) year old granddaughter asked if we would buy her a Karaoke Machine for Christmas so that she could have one at her house when they have friends sleep over, I was more than willing to grant her request! I cannot tell you how many Karaoke machines I looked at before purchasing this one! I like the fact that although the display screen is rather small at only 3-1/2 inches, this one comes with cables that allow you to hook it up to the television, VCR/DVD player, video device, or an external audio/sound system. You aren't limited to playing CD's with this unit. There is a USB port that is right in the front of the machine, so it's very easy & convenient to use. Although this unit is well built, it always concerns me when young children manipulate equipment because there is always a chance for them to break something. There is, also, a 3-1/2 mm "line in" jack on the back of the unit that the instruction manual says can be used to use the karaoke machine as a speaker for another audio device. This can be used to stream online karaoke a smart phone/tablet. I love the fact that this unit is much smaller and portable than the old one that we have so it stores much easier. It is much lighter, too. The unit itself, as weighed on my kitchen scale, is only a little over 2 lbs. I didn't weigh the microphone or wires with the unit. That would add just a bit more weight. The front of the unit is round and only about 10-1/2 inches in circumference. There are so many more features than our old one has. It has a microphone volume adjustment, master volume adjustment, speaker balance for left and right speakers, AVC volume control, and an echo control. I'm not accustomed to some of these terms, so I'm going to let you know what the awesome instruction manual says. The AVC control is "Auto Voice Control." You can "mute the vocals on a multiplex recording" so that when someone is singing in the microphone you can hear them louder and when they stop singing "the recorded vocals will start playing again." I wasn't sure what "Multiplex" meant either, so I checked the instruction manual which has a glossary of karaoke terms (for old geezers like me!!) It says that "some multiplex CD+Gs have two versions of a song." One would be recorded where there isn't a "lead singer" and the other would have on one channel, the lead singer singing and on the other channel the music & background singers. The Balance knob controls the volume of the lead singer so that you can sing a duet with the lead singer or you can just "use the lead singer as a guide while you learn the song, gradually fading out the lead singer voice until you can sing the song alone." CD+G is "Compact Disc Plus Graphics" which just basically means that it shows the lyrics and highlights/change color when they should be sung. I hope that if you are unfamiliar with some of the terminology, this will help a bit. We gave my granddaughter her Karaoke Machine for Christmas. She absolutely LOVED it. Not surprisingly she adapted to it much quicker than I did! I didn't realize this machine came with a speaker, I missed that when I read it, so I purchased two extra speakers which came in handy. We still have an extra one because the machine will accommodate only two, but that is no problem. Within minutes she had the machine set up and was using it. She is really enjoying her gift and I'm very happy with my purchase. After playing with it, I noticed there were a lot of handprints on the front of the machine. It was very easy to clean with just a microfiber cloth and absolutely nothing else. I would definitely recommend this machine.

Ordering Experience: ( - negative + positive parts of the overall experience) - This was second choice, first choice was a higher level model of product from same provider, (The 770, which has been discontinued.) +Ordering was straightforward and easy Out Of Box Experience + Arrived perhaps a day earlier than originally scheduled. + Box undamaged; tight fit with external packaging, easy to open + Product package provided clear visuals and text indicating the contents of the package + User guide easily found and instructions were for the most part clear and simple + setup of wires and connections straightforward User Experience - unclear exactly how the Automatic Voice Coach works or if it works as designed (Will have to fool around with it to figure it out) - Not quite sure whether external speakers were receiving the audio, sounded like the karaoke machine speakers were louder (could have been other system. Again, will have to fool around with it to figure it out) + Included microphone not bad. Will probably use better microphone with wind shields and possibly Y-splitters to add more mics. + Echo effect worked well, impressed with the body it added to vocals. + Screen display of CD+G lyrics visible and legible from several feet away. Display on external monitor/TV screen adequate size and legibility. + Controls simple and easy to learn how to use them - Design lacks insufficient contrast to make control texts readable in poor light, rotary dials might not have been best for functions. For instance, Balance is clearly left and right, but other are clockwise to increase, counterclockwise to decrease. This is not a deal killer, just makes using the machine a little harder to learn. About average. Still, simple controls, not difficult to learn to use them. + Built in handle makes it easy to move, Back panel inputs and outputs are easy to access. Fits easily into a backpack for portability. Takes only a few minutes to set up. Bottom line: Not as fully featured and robust as I would have liked, but pluses far outweigh the minuses - Quality and Price/Value are the main attractors. Should meet my needs quite well. Have not had to use the pitch adjustment except by accident (should be separate from the other controls and not dependent on mode).

I bought this karaoke machine for my daughter's 9th birthday. We had previously owned a different brand karaoke machine that broke after only being used a few times. So I went on the hunt for a replacement... After reading all the reviews I decided this was the perfect one for my daughter. The thing I like the most is the size of this machine, after previously owning a larger, bulkier one, I was very happy this one was small and saved (much needed) space in her room. Another plus for me was the screen the words appear on. While small, it works perfect for when my daughter wants to play with it but I don't have time to plug it into the TV. The sound quality is great and has provided us with hours of entertainment.

I ordered this for a Company party. Glad I opened it before the party to test it. It would not read the disc that came with it. I thought we had to go online to download the songs on the disc, so I put in another karaoke disc that we had and it could not read that disc either. My husband went to their website and did all of the troubleshooting that they suggested. We never could get it to read any discs. Went to Best Buy and luckily they had a pretty awesome system for a less that even had blue tooth! This is the only product I have ever had to return to Amazon that didn't work, not to be discouraged...I will be back...Christmas is right around the corner....YEAH!!!!!

The Karaoke machine was a gift to our 9 yr old daughter, for Christmas. She has been singing with it every day since then! She loves to use the echo effect, which is adjustable. She already had a microphone, but the machine came with one, so now she can sing with a friend. The hookup to the tv was easy, which is how she uses it, but the built in screen is a great feature that is nice to have. The sound comes through nicely, with adjustments forb each microphone. The karaoke discs she received help with background vocals, but the machine has a nice feature that fades them out if needed. The only negative I would give the machine is a lack of a holder for the microphone. The machine is small and compact, so there really isn't room, but it would be nice to have a place to put a microphone so it isn't so messy laying around the machine.

Small unit suitable for kids. Easy to use. Sound is not big enough for adults. Have not had time to use connections to TV or other devices. Our first unit did not play the disc but Amazon quickly replaced it.

I reviewed all the different karaoke machines online, and decided on the Electrohome portable karaoke machine as a gift for my nine year old daughter. She loves to sing and we thought this might be fun to play with her friends. She nearly screamed when she opened it and sang on it for about 48 hours straight. The sound is just fine as long as the volume isn't too loud (or at least that is what I tell my daughter.) It is the perfect machine for children ages 6 to early twenties. The only reason I would limit it to the young is that the lyrics are very small and difficult to read for "older" eyes. But the 3.5" screen is part of the portability factor. The machine on a whole is small and super easy for the kids to move from room to room. Even better it fits in a cabinet when it isn't in use. It has been fun for the whole family and imagine it would be a good addition to a party. This is definitely an upper mid-range priced machine. I think it is good quality and so far we have had no problems although we haven't used the ipod function. I would say the only negative is that for a machine in this price range I think it should come with two mics and a CD that includes more than a few songs.

Though I've sung in large choral groups, I'd never sung solo. But I've always had a performer inside me just waiting to perform! I began to download the karaoke versions of some of the old songs I remember my mom singing around the house when I was a child. (WWII era --- 30's 40's). I bought this karaoke machine (and a nice bose speaker system to plug it into) and have begun to sing at senior centers and entertaining at senior housing places. This system works beautifully. (And the reverb or "echo" option makes me sound even better!!) I haven't used any karaoke CD's that scroll the lyrics. My music is simply karaoke versions of songs. I find the lyrics on-line and print them. I use the speaker system because sometimes I'm in a hall or really large room. But this little machine is great even alone.

That's exactly what I wanted. A machine that the kids can grow up with (because they don't know how to read yet but it will come.) and practice singing by them self and if we want to do it together, we can just plug it to the tv!! Great for family. Packaging was good, arrived quick. Service was great!!

Product did not include the power adapter. There was no mention of the adapter not being included in the description prior to purchase. Adapter is listed in the user manual as an included item with the device. Not sure yet how it works since we cannot turn it on.

Very pleased with it. We've used it a handful of times so far and it meets our families standards. We only bought it for something fun to do with kids. It's not very loud but we always hook it into our Bluetooth speaker and that amps up the volume. Great for the price.

If you are looking for something affordable and not willing to spend lots of $$ on a huge rental fee then invest in something you will use over and over again. It's not a high end, bar or lounge type karaoke but it will do the trick. I had a blast with it. I sang (very badly) for like three hours after I purchased it but I had so much fun. Your guests will too! The only negative is that you will have to fiddle with the volume and adjust some of the dials when you sing into the mic because I found that your voice drowns out the cd when it's played. It appeared that the music faded out and just the voice was heard. We fixed that problem by adjusting the knobs and it plays fine.

I bought two of them. One as a gift for someone. They hooked it up to an extended speaker system and wow! The features on it, tone control, etc. is so nice to use. I still have not opened mine yet.
