Review: Really great roller guard for hockey skates! - I was on the fence about buying this Rollergard Ice Skate Guard but having seen it on another kid after hockey practice I thought, why not? It's a little expensive at $59.99 but it's still cheaper and better than buying a dedicated roller skate that my son will outgrow within a year or less. So this was a nice alternative option. Because it has 4 wheels, it is more stable and less like skating than a normal roller blade but the fact that you can just throw this into your hockey back and put it on immediately after practice is perfect. I'm glad we got it and will be using it for years. Update. It's been a while but I finally got photos of him using it. He was a little nervous at first because it glides really quickly and he's not too sure how to stop. There is a runner ball on the back of the right skate that he's learning to use. He also has little feet so the roller skate is a bit too long but he's getting it!

The instructions do say to cut the extra portions of the skate guard, but we kept it on so that they can be used with his next pair of skates, and the extra bits at the back of his skates made his ice skating easier because he was now skating without it more freely - almost like the donut they put on bats in the on deck circle, or ankle weights for basketball players.
