I would like to use this or something similar to have a 240v 20 amp 10awg source to switch from one motor to another. (exterior)

I used this switch to transfer 30 A power through or bypassing a filter. The switch performs well. I did not purchase the variant with an enclosure. So, I can not comment on the quality of that, as to water exclusion, etc. I will note that I had to get three switches in order to get the one I needed which functioned properly. The first I received had a set of dead poles. The replacement had fewer poles than I ordered. The replacement replacement had dead poles. But, I found that switching it rapidly from one position to another a few times fixed this. After that it seemed to function properly and reliably. It's likely had I tried this with the first switch it would have functioned well, also. I'm not sure why the switch behaved like that. It could have been a fluke. I'd say the quality is respectable for the cost. But, test it before you install it.

I am using this in place of an surge guard auto transfer. 50 Amp gen power on one leg and 50 Amp shore power on the other leg. will this handle that?

It should be fine. The switch is rated at 63 amps and you will be off 1 50 amp leg at a time. Double check with an electrician.

Can this be mounted on the outside of my rec trailer to transfer 30 amp load between genset and shore power?

I have the switch, it is not rain or water tight. Outside electrical, lighting etc., carry a water tight rating listed as an IP rating. most general purposes are IP65, IP66 and IP67. For complete information GOOGLE IP WATER RATINGS.
