Inspired by a shocking true story, a tenacious attorney (Mark Ruffalo) uncovers a dark secret that connects a growing number of unexplained deaths to one of the world's largest corporations. In the process, he risks everything—his future, his family, and his own life—to expose the truth. Anne Hathaway, Tim Robbins and Bill Pullman also star in this gripping thriller. Review: A true story How DuPont 's corporate greed sacrificed human health. MUST WATCH! - This is a true story. I BOUGHT THIS MOVIE TO WATCH OVER AND OVER AGAIN. IT WILL MAKE YOU THINK TWICE ABOUT WHERE YOU SWIM, WHAT YOU PURCHASE FOR YOU AND YOUR FAMILY. I came upon an article that described river pollution by DuPont dumping substances into the new river in Ohio and every river that water fed became contaminated. I stumbled upon this movie searching for water and land safety when I was looking to purchase land in West Virginia. The Movie describes the perseverance and persistence one attorney who risked his marriage, career and personal health to bring justice to all those who were affected. A MUST WATCH MOVIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Review: Good movie - Wow. Was very informative on forever plastics.

Sobering story, well acted, and interesting. Worth a watch.
We watched this over the holiday with family. It was not an uplifting film, but everyone appreciated the learning so much about a topic that we knew nothing about. Mark Ruffalo was believable. There were no awkward sex or love scenes, so safe to watch in mixed company. The dialouge was easier to follow with subtitles because some of the local accents were very thick.

In you and in everything else too
This was a great movie exposing the coverup by the chemical industry concerning the production of C8 (the main chemical used in teflon and many other products for decades) and the catastrophic consequences of a coverup..think along the lines of a similar movie from years back titled Erin Brokovich. Ruffalo plays an attorney tasked with fighting against a big chemical corporation who being well aware of what happened in Parkersburg, VA and elsewhere, continued to put profit over public health and safety. Though I do not agree with Ruffalo’s personal political stance on many issues; acting wise he played the role of the attorney well and further brought to mainstream through this movie, the danger of PFAS, PFOA’s and others and demonstrated the lengths these corporations will go to in order to protect profits while maiming the consumer. I will say that if you can, definitely pick up the Blu-Ray. While the DVD version is good enough, after watching this film multiple times, just due to how dark certain scenes are, I regret not picking it up in HD. The DVD version resolution is just too soft (sharpness not there) in my opinion and is grainy on certain scenes. But as for the movie itself; Five stars. Well done. One more thing; Make sure you also check out ‘The Devil We Know’ which is a well done documentary about the same topic.

important subject matter . Great movie for group discussion and social awareness
Dark Waters tells a story about a corporate greed in it's ugliest form. When the health and well being of thousands of people is compromised (ruined!) due to a negligence of a single chemical corporation, even the best lawyers can't bring justice to the victims. At least not in time to make a difference for the generation that suffered the most. It's infuriating to see the timeline of the lawsuit and how years are passing by while so many of the sick people can't even live that long. Meanwhile for a corporation with their lawyers and lobbyists in place it's just a way to play the system and 10, 15 or 20 years don't matter to them unless if they are loosing money. Every time I watch a movie of this type , based on real events, I think again and again about the individuals that had to put their family, health and career at risk to fight the exhausting fight with a corporation or government . I wish it would end on a positive note, with a strong ruling by the judge with no chance to appeal or revoke it. But as we know by now, this doesn't happen in real life. The news bring spotlight to the lawsuit , but when the public attention fades away, do we know how many years it will actually take for the company to begin compensating people? Do they ever get justice? And another valuable point this movie makes: how does the community survive if the same corporation that has been poisoning them for years is the biggest employer ? Its like being trapped in your own hometown . This is a great film and I hope it will make a difference for the case against DuPont.

A Great Understated Film But Also a Fitting Tribute to the Victims of American Corporate Insouciance
I first heard about this issue on a late night documentary here in the UK. I could not believe what I was seeing and hearing. Since then I have stopped wearing Gortex and seek other methods of non-stick coatings for my pots and pans. Like its title, this is a dark, gritty film - the sunshine is seldom seen, matters seem to take place mostly in winter and this seems to echo the veil that the main corporate protagonists throw over their obscene and uncaring actions. What emerges is a sort of subdued, barely depressed rage at what is revealed that occasionally blows off through the character of Ruffalo's corporate defence lawyer (gamekeeper turned poacher) who decides something is not right and pursues the case with dignity and strength. What we also see is the long hard, lonely road of the person who decides to make a stand and the personal cost it can exact on themselves and their loved ones (a frequent phenomena which makes you wonder why some people even bother - it's tough). All the performances by the big stars are great but where this film is unique is that it also places in the scenes real people who have been affected by the poisoning of their environment - such as Bucky Bailey - born with deformities as a result of chemical poisoning. I remember being deeply touched by Bucky talking about the loss of his father in the documentary, a man who seemed to be so instrumental in getting him get through his difficult early years. I think including these people in the film - the victims and those who spoke out - elevates this film to a whole new level of film making - it is a real tribute to their suffering and their fortitude. Bless them, every one of them. As for the other messages in this film, we have to question what Government is for. The case against the corporate giant in this film could only gain traction because it was proven that they broke their own safety standards - not that set by the US Government. Something has to change. It really does. Highly recommended.

Film formidable, acteurs au top pour une histoire vrai de bout en bout scénario haletant qui fait froid dans le dos quand on sait que rien n'a été inventé dans ce film.
