Salt Pig | Burgundy

For years and years I didn't put salt on anything because I had heard it's bad for you. I also suffered from muscle cramps. I went to see my family doctor for something and had a muscle cramp. We talked a little bit, checked my blood pressure, and he told me to eat more salt. He says you want to eat enough that you do not have muscle cramps and not so much you are sweating it out in your clothes. He recommended sea salt because it contains minerals that help balance your blood pressure. He did warn me that if I stop exercising so much both work and play, that I should reevaluate how much salt intake I have and monitor my blood pressure. I love the pig. We used them in cooking classes, and are great for the larger crystals in the sea salt I use. Unlike a shaker, I know exactly how much salt I am using.

The salt pig is well made and is great addition to my kitchen.

This is a lovely rich red, and I’m sure it’s well-made, but a bit of glaze was missing from around the rim, in a visible area. However, it’s not worth the trouble to return the item. But I’m surprised it got through quality control.

I was skeptical of a salt pig since it was open to the air, but a friend has one and swears by it. Turns out it keeps salt perfectly, is easy to use and looks nice on top of it all.

Little did I know when I finally broke down and ordered it that it would be so useful. Hubby had to be on low/no salt diet and after doing some research on dietary hints, by using the salt pig and a pinch of coarse salt that one actually ends up using less salt which makes the diet easier to work and foods still taste good. I really feel that it has been a great help in making meals tastier and has helped reduce fluid retention at the same time. Great investment.

A nice, well-sized, well-made, well-packaged ceramic salt pig. Colour is rich, inside is unvarnished, and it feels like quality. Worth $60? That's up to you; it's very much a piece you would want to keep for years/decades in your kitchen, but there are absolutely less expensive salt storage solutions available. I live in a dry climate so moisture isn't a concern so this being open is a non-issue. Overall made my kitchen look just that much more attractive.

In passato ho avuto questo tipo di contenitore per il sale in stile francese “aperto”. Lo trovo molto utile perché in cucina mi piace avere tutto a portata di mano. Lo uso per sale grosso che utilizzo principalmente per salare l’acqua della pasta, patate e altre verdure e lo uso con moltissima frequenza. Il fatto che è aperto fa si che sia più facile di usare, più inmediato. Ho presso un dosatore in legno di ulivo per non sbagliare la quantità di sale perche a volte uso troppo. Va molto bene con tutto quello che ho in cucina. La ceramica grezza all’interno del barattolo aiuta a mantenere asciutto il sale. Molto bello e funzionale.
