Secure, Versatile Multi-Factor Key with Broad Compatibility and Practical Use
I am very pleased with the Yubico YubiKey 5Ci. Shipping was prompt, and the security key arrived well-packaged and protected, with no signs of damage. The dual-connector design—featuring both USB-C and Lightning plugs—was exactly as advertised and ready for immediate setup. In terms of product quality, this YubiKey feels solid and reliable. The build quality gives confidence that it will withstand daily carry on a keychain, and the connectors seat securely into devices without wiggle or looseness. Setting it up with my accounts was straightforward; the configuration steps were clear and compatible with the MFA options in most services I use. Functionally, the key enhances security through hardware-based authentication rather than relying solely on passwords or SMS codes. It supports modern authentication standards such as FIDO2/WebAuthn and U2F, providing a practical second factor for logging into email, cloud services, password managers, and other online accounts that support security keys. The dual Lightning and USB-C connectors make it especially useful for iPhone users and other Apple devices that lack conventional USB ports. Yubico +1 From a value perspective, this security key offers strong protection at a reasonable cost compared with subscription-based alternatives or more complex enterprise solutions. Its broad platform compatibility—covering iOS, macOS, Windows, Linux, and many web services—adds versatility. While not every app supports hardware keys yet, the ecosystem continues to expand, and the YubiKey remains a robust, future-oriented investment in account security. Overall, this is a well-made, dependable MFA solution that combines convenience with significant security benefits, and I would confidently recommend it.

You may not need a lightning plug for much longer - this one is very expensive for what it is
This one is a bit pricey but it necessary if one still has an older ipad without USB-C. It works well. Apple has finally made their ipad USB-C port compatible with yubikey, I haven't tested that. I have used this key with windows and Mac PC's, as well as with an iphone and it works easily and well. I also own a USB-C NFC and that also works easily, except with an old ipad. You need to have at least 2 keys in case one gets lost, and I recommend that the second key be a cheaper version as you don't need a complete drop-in replacement you just need the backup key to add a replacement key. You should know that using a security key to lock down an apple account means that you lose the ability to ask Apple to unlock your account should you lose your yubikey, which can be a big deal. Other accounts are not as strict and treat the yubikeys as just another second factor. This is a complicated product and I am enjoying getting to learn about using it. Yubico has great support materials on their website and good links to external sites for various accounts and services you might use their key with. Since this version is pricey (about $25 more than the USB-C/NFC one), I would recommend only getting one of these, and then a cheaper different yubikey as a backup. The backup device is only necessary if the first gets lost, and once you replace the lost key you only need the backup on one device to do the task of adding the replacement key to all your accounts. This is a bit cumbersome but hopefully it'll get easier with time. Last thing - this key has it's keyring hole in the center, which works surprisingly well; it sits on my keychain nicely even though I worried it wouldn't. TL;DR - great product but security keys can be "dangerous" and are not for everyone. This one is pricey because it supports an edge use case (old ipads). Edit to add—I also own a USC-C NFC version of yubikey, which is similar to this product but is cheaper. I wanted to add that the lightning/USB yubikey is my favorite form factor as it is much SMALLER and I also prefer the activation mechanism of pinching it instead of touching a metal front.

So versatile across all my Apple devices!
This little powerhouse works on all my Apple devices, macbook iPad, iPhone as it handles either USB C and lightning connections! Everyone knows YubiKey for it's strong security. The delight to this 5Ci model is that I works on all these devices. Of course, it works on Windows and Chromebook too, where you might already have a USB C connector, but if you only have USB A, you can separately buy a standard USB C to USB A adapter and it works the same! Use it, don't lose it!

Great security key with dual connectors!
I bought this specifically for the dual Lightning and USB-C support. I’m currently using an iPhone 14 with the older charging port, but I plan to upgrade to the latest iPhone soon, so I wanted a key that would work with both. It’s been easy to use, very functional, and gives me peace of mind knowing my accounts are more secure. I love the concept and highly recommend it to anyone looking to step up their online security.

Less security after
I ordered two (as required for use) Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) Security Key and password for iPhone. As I followed the instructions finalized the stronger security for my iPhone, the product was not accepted, as listed in the Amazon product when purchased. As I needed to order 2ea and they do not work, this is an Amazon + Apple failure to charge me a total of $150

for apple lightning yes, but lower usability compared to the 5 NFC or 5 mini/micro
I Like that it works on iphones with lightning jacks .... but the cheaper 5 NFC and 5 mini are my favorites to use on non lightning devices. The 5 NFC works easier for 2FA on an iphone that supports NFC. Works great on our 6s plus (or newer). So if you only want to use 2FA and not also the static bank 2 also ... then that a nice option instead of this. The tiny connections on either side are difficult to use at times. If you have big fingers, I think it'll be tough. Make sure your firewall is off or lastpass won't work with this for some reason. I just find the the yubikey 5 mini is my favorite for use in a laptop. For all around use the 5 NFC is champ. It can also be converted to USB C use but would a bit janky. It works on iphones that have NFC. I also found using the highly useful apple lightning to usb adaptor allows the 5 NFC to work on a lightning device or phone but is not portable or practical. So this device works but is not quite as nice as would like. It's very small and key chain able . Possibly needs protective something to last on a bigger keychain. it might even be a bit too small in some ways. A single sided version with a bigger lit-button like 5 NFC might be nicer. I've just found the little tiny side buttons harder to use ... as you have to pinch them from both sides and it's very close to the phone and not the easiest thing to do for some. The app says insert the key for two factor, but if you already inserted the key say for the static password, you actually can just leave it plugged in and need to press both buttons for one second and your good. It would have been better with NFC added in. But all in all, you can store a static or OTP password in slot 2 (long press) and use slot 1 for 2FA.(short press) and that's been good. Pro tip: when using a static password, say to remember a strong master password .... for a password manager ... ALWAYS make part of the master password a simple manually added password you can remember .... so the entire thing is not entirely stored on the yubikey static. This keeps it secure even if lost. Watch Rob Braxman for this pro tip on youtube. Overall a good device but pricy when considering it's overall usability kinda lacks compared to the mini or 5 NFC. 11/08/21 update: I am subtracting one star after discovering that the STATIC password functionality on the lightning connector is consistently dropping the first character every time. It does not do this on the USB-C it appears, but for the lightning connector its quite troublesome to drop a character of the static without telling you. You have to paste it into a document (very insecure) to verify what its doing on the static long press, but I verified its dropping the first character 90% of the time, and sometimes changing the first character case (upper/lower) to something different ... also a PITA. Testing people, testing!!!
