Fun Sight Word Practice

This comes with a lot for the price! The fly swatted/game aspect makes this a fun way to practice sight words. This could be used for years with multiple learners- 5 sight word lists and 4 fly swatters. The bugs are double sided and seem sturdy. The play learning ideas are endless for this!

Fun way to learn

I would not recommend this as a standalone product for sight words, there's too much going on for actually learning to read one's first words and that initial step is best achieved with a cleaner, calmer environment, but this is a great addition to the sets of cards we already have to keep things fun and interesting. I think it best introduced after approximately 50-150 words have already been mastered, pattern recognition is improving and the pace of learning picks up to keep things flowing freely, but there are still enough new words to encounter to get lots of use out of it. Not that you couldn't use it earlier or later, that's just what I think would be optimal. Having a certain number of words confidently under one's belt ahead of time means the game can be fun and exciting, played with confidence right out of the box. We would much rather play than study, so this was a hit. We separated the colors, colored flyswatters and put them in ziplock bags so we can have different sets in different locations/work through one set more systematically. If drawing at random from the full set, the repetition will be inefficiently spaced and lead to poor retention. Don't forget to read the brave little tailor from Grimm's fairy tales and try to swat seven with a single blow!

A BIG hit with 6,7, and 11 year old

I bought this game mainly for my 6 year old who is struggling with reading. I am desperate to try anything at this point. I thought her and my 7 year old son could play together for practice. When the game was delivered my kids had just finished school work and were playing mine craft. I showed them the game and the started playing. In the middle of the game my 6 year old jumped up and said “wait, let me turn off mine craft” they were having so much fun that my 7 year old didn’t realize it was an educational game until we had been playing for an hour. My 6 year old was actually able to get way more word then I even thought she knew. Even some of the harder words she recognized. My 11 year old started playing too and we all played for another hour. They had so much fun they want to play again tomorrow. I figure it’s something I will use after they get done with school every day for extra practice. The game is decently made. But one of the fly swatters did end up snapping. The fly swatters aren’t super bendable. So I would be carful with them. If you wanted to take the time you probably could have even make the game yourself. Buy some fly swatters at the dollar store and make some fly cards out of paper. But to me this was worth the money either way. My daughter enjoys it and the practice they get with sight words is all I care about. I’m very happy with this purchase.

Fun and educational but……

Love the concept of this game. It is fun to play at home as well as in school. The game play can be altered to accommodate the number of people playing. My major problem is that the bugs are fairly thin and can be bent easily. The fly shatters are too inflexible and do break easily even with supervision. A more rubbery material would be better. The words all come mixed up and in one bag. They need to be separated and stored in individual bags. One bag is provided. It would be great to have the levels in individual bags with a container for the entire game. It barely fits in the box once it’s opened.

Awesome product

We really love this game. It's good quality, has a ton of words to practice with... Ranges from easy to hard words based on color. Different words on front and back of the flys. Super fun for the kids.

Wonderful word game

My 6yrs daughter loved the game and was really excited on playing but once she realized she had to read the words. She got a bit frustrated she has difficulty wanting to read words. I hope this game really helps her I've gotten a bunch of 1st lvl books to help her read out loud and sounding her words out she usually gives up and keeps saying she can't do it. I always try to be patient with her and reassure her it's okay and to take her time. So we have played this game at least 3 times with only the 1st lvl since we've got it, as she's an only child we take turn on who gets to announce the words each rounds. So far she's gotten a bit more confident and comfortable reading it out loud and sounding it out. I'm glad she's having fun and laughing on who catches the little guys first. Idk about the durability or it yet I hope it lasts a while.

Sturdy quality materials

I am glad to see that the quality of the swatters and game tiles is high. It should stand up to my 2nd and 3rd graders' best attempts to obliterate the bugs. I'm really excited to use this during small group activities in the fall.
