) and I've long heard that a pillow like this would help with both conditions
I suffer from both sleep apnea and acid reflux (a natural extension of the sleep apnea issue,) and I've long heard that a pillow like this would help with both conditions. I've nearly stopped taking my heartburn medication after all of the bad press it's received, so finding a solution became more important. This has helped me a LOT. I find that I have been sleeping better than ever, and I've not had any further bouts of nighttime acid reflux. My partner, who also has sleep apnea issues (but does not yet have a CPAP,) has been having both issues. I purchased a second pillow, and now his problems have lessened substantially. I also find that I have less back pain in the mornings, and unexpected but welcome side effect of using the pillow. Even though I have a quality memory foam mattress, it seemed like it didn't support my lower back enough. When I lay down, this pillow's edge is right at the base of my back and better supports my back. The feel of the pillow is soft yet firm, a perfect balance for me. The wedge-shaped pillows are not a new concept; they've been selling them for years. The addition of memory foam makes them much more comfortable. I should also add that these have no detectable odor, even when fresh out of the packaging. The pillows are shipped in sealed bags with the air removed to minimize the size of the product, and are then rolled and wrapped in an additional layer of heavy plastic. Word of caution, be careful when cutting that outer layer of plastic so that you don't damage the pillow or it's cover in the process. This is a wide pillow, approximately 33", and I've read that two of them will just fit side-by-side on a queen sized mattress. On my king size, there's a bit of a gap in the middle, but nothing that is problematic. We opted to use them for a while before buying the special pillow cases for them; instead we use a spare flat sheet wrapped over and under the pillows and that's worked fine so far. I've been using the pillow for about 3 weeks. If something related to my review changes, I'll post an update. I have no idea how well the pillows will hold up over time, but for now they continue to look like brand new. I've already verbally recommended this to several of my friends who suffer from either lower back pain, sleep apnea, or acid reflux, and have no problems giving this a 5-star review here at Amazon.

Greatly Relieved and Impressed
Straight out of the package, I was most relieved that it had no odor at all. Zip, none. I've had much trouble in the past with memory foams and off-gassing, but not here. If I didn't have the pillow, I probably wouldn't believe the claim. In spite of my worries about odor, I ordered this high-priced wedge pillow, rather than picking up another $20 one from Walmart or ordering one of the many less expensive ones at Amazon, because of the size. They're all too short and narrow. I'm an average 5'9" male with about average shoulder width and torso length. That none of the competing pillows can accommodate me comfortably is mind-boggling. I can only assume they were designed by petite Chinese people who want to keep material costs--regardless how small--to a minimum. And, without much competition, much larger Americans are somehow making do with pillows that allow them a couple inches on either side for arms--which must be kept straight--and an unfilled crack at the bottom of your back which is very uncomfortable. With your elbow joints balanced apon that 1 inch bottom ridge--the last thing I needed for my tendonitis. I had to practically use a protractor and ruler to position the smaller pillow so that I would be allowed even this much comfort. As long as I was a fanatically disciplined sleeper who did not move. Yes, I learned to do that. THIS pillow is, in my opinion, overpriced. It is, however, the only reasonably-sized one on the market, far as I could tell. I used to shift back to my normal pillow around 2 AM, when the GERD was safely behind me, and throw my wedge pillow on the floor. This pillow is so comfortable, in three nights I have not yet done this. This purchase was money well-spent.

good, but non-memory foam segments begin to compress...
i purchased this as a respiratory wedge during the beginning respiratory symptoms of als... initially, it worked fine, but very soon the non-memory foam portion began to compress, so it gradually developed a lower and lower angle when the same or a higher angle is required (for respiratory distress)... my respiratory state today requires ~> than ~35°... as i was unable to find such a large angle, 100% memory foam wedge, it was necessary to custom make a wedge by combining manufactured wedges with cut pieces from a king size firm memory foam mattress topper. this project was necessary to achieve and maintain the steep angle required. i recommend this memory foam mattress topper to cut your pieces from, again, so that you are building up with as much memory foam as possible; Best Price Mattress 2.5" Ventilated Memory Foam Mattress Topper, King the ventilation was key with this mattress, as well as it is thicker and firmer than most and quite reasonably priced. as it is really a very individualized, customized art to get the right angle and comfort, what works for one does not mean it will work for another. as such, my intention is to share my individual experience and recommendations. keep in mind that all foams, with the exception of memory foam, will eventually compress and remain compressed, thus losing your desired angle. ok… i also recommend this foldable wedge, which is also mostly non-memory foam, but it has held up far superior than the wedge under review; InteVision Folding Wedge Bed Pillow (32" x 25" x 6.5") with a Carrying Case . i recommend this over the non-foldable, if this is all the angle you require, but i recommend both wedges in addition to a supply of memory foam(in the form of the mattress link above) to cut pieces from to build up your wedge, if you need to continue increasing your angle. these two InteVision wedges essentially form the guts or center of my wedge, surrounded by memory foam from the mattress, and it took some time to get it right, but it works! :-) ○ note that the higher angle required is in direct proportion to decreasing comfort, as well as increasing sliding down and losing that angle you need to breathe .... ... • so, to combat this issue, i cut a hole in the top layer of the memory foam where my hips/bottom are located for the main reason of having a break or stopping point where i would not slide down further... it has worked splendidly! :-) ... and, the bonus is no more hip bed sores thanks to the pressure is now distributed around the hip & bottom... and, this measure also increased my sleep angle by 3", as well! ☑ bottom line on this measure; no sliding down the wedge, increased respiratory angle, and elimination of hip bed sores! 👍 should you require some assistance in customizing a high angle respiratory wedge system, feel free to question me here and i will provide details and pics. i may be able to help, as i am an engineer with 2+ years of deteriorating respiratory distress from als. as such, i have built a respiratory wedge system that has a high angle, is relatively comfortable, and sliding down is prevented. ok, thanks for listening and best wishes to you in achieving a good nights rest! deke :-)

Happy Sleeper!
I ordered this wedge pillow to help relieve night time acid reflux. I waited to write this review because I knew it would take a few weeks to see if it was really going to help. Well, I've had it now for two months and I have to say it has basically eliminated the reflux! I feel so much better when I wake up in the morning now. I also like that it is wider than another pillow that I bought at a local store (and returned after 2 nights). I'm a side sleeper and with this pillow being wider I don't feel like I'm falling off the edge when I roll over from one side to the other during the night. We have a queen size bed so it does cover about have of the width of the bed. My husband complained that he felt crowded so I just make sure that the pillow is even with the edge of the mattress on my side of the bed. Occasionally I do slide down some but I think that's just plain gravity and not the fault of the pillow. It took a about a week for me to get used to being propped up and to break in the pillow so it didn't seem so firm. Now I wonder how I'm going to sleep when I am out of town and not in my own bed with "my pillow". I also ordered the 400 thread count cover for it which is softer than the cover that comes on it. If you have reflux at night you need to try this pillow! Update to my original review: I've now used this pillow for almost 2 years. It has not compressed or lost any resilience. I do still slide down occasionally but I'm sure that's just how I'm sleeping on those particular nights. I really like the extra width and length. I tried a narrower one at first but I kept falling off the sides. I'm a side sleeper and it didn't give me anywhere to support my arms/elbows. The extra length also gives better support to my lower back. My husband made a few comments at first that it didn't give him much room on his side of our queen size bed. I'm not even sure why he complained since he sleeps on the edge of the bed anyway. The extra pillow case cover has been washed in the washer and dried in the dryer every time I change the sheets and is holding up very well. The only complaint I have with it is that It is somewhat loose fitting. We recently purchased a vacation home and I'll be ordering one to use on my bed there. I'll probably order the dark blue since that color will fit better with my "cabin" color scheme. Still highly recommend this pillow!

Works well with one or more pillows added
I need to sleep on my side to help with sleep apnea. To avoid back pain from sleeping on my side as other reviewers noted, I added a foam pillow—crosswise—about 4 inches up at the bottom of the wedge —forming a T —Amazing, no back pain when sleeping on my side. If you find that you slide down, just remove the pillowcase, and the covering of the pillow prevents any sliding. Additionally, I keep turning on my back during the night—to prevent this, I use an extremely heavy memory foam pillow at my back—no pillowcase, or it will slide off—I place it at my back, about halfway off the wedge. My back is slightly on it—I sleep without turning. The best sleep I have had in years—and without my cpap. The reason I think I can do this is because on my sleep apnea test they made me sleep on my back to register a sleep problem. So, check with your doctor before sleeping without your c-pap. I gave this 5 stars because it works for a back sleeper and it would be impossible to create a wedge that works for everyone—but this one works for me with these modifications.

Side Sleeping Issues, and a Caveat for Returns
Other reviews are correct in that it's *very* large - takes up half the width and length of a Queen Sized bed. It's also very high. My cat was lying next to me and I felt like I was towering over him. I also wondered that if I had someone else in the bed with me, that would be a little awkward to be so much higher and, no pun intended, it would put a wedge between us. I'm a side sleeper, and I did not feel comfortable on this wedge as it created a bend at my waist that was uncomfortable to my lower back. The good news is that my reflux was improved for the short time I was on it. But I couldn't get to sleep due to the body discomfort. I had even put it underneath the fitted sheet (they are super deep sheets for a mattress that is only moderately deep, so it had room to fit). I figured that putting it under the sheet would make it so that there was no bottom edge to dig into my side. But it was just too uncomfortable and I gave on it very quickly and returned it for a refund. The wedge did feel very comfortable (if I was on my back - which is not how I sleep) and as a large person, I did feel supported by it without it being too firm and ungiving. One thing I didn't expect though, was the hassle of returning this. I expected that it would be shipped flat in a large box. But it was mechanically rolled like a sleeping bag in a plastic bag and put in a long box that was very narrow. It popped up quickly when I opened the plastic bag. However, getting it back into that box? Wow, was that hard. Maybe another set of hands would've helped, but I didn't have that option, and I was expecting to pull my back out doing it. Seriously. It was almost impossible to roll it back up manually to get it back into that box. I did manage to get it to the point where it fit. Barely. Bulging on one side of the box, but I put enough tape that hopefully by the time it gets back to Amazon, it's still in the box. :) I know people don't usually buy things expecting to return them, but do keep this in mind if it's a possibility that you might not like it.

Works Well
The product is of high quality and works very well to allow me to sleep on an elevated position. It provides great support even for my plus size frame(I am 190lbs +). It takes up half of the queen size bed, which is wide enough to allow me to place my two arms on top of the wedge pillow comfortably. Even if I slide down a bit during the night, I can still get a good night's sleep because this wedge is long enough to accommodate that situation. The cover can be removed for washing. I do think that the optional Egyptian cotton pillowcase offered by the same company is a nice upgrade. I need to point out that the optional pillowcase looks too big initially but it actually fits quite well after washing.

This is the nicest foam bed wedge I have ever bought
Here's my scoring and why I gave this five out of five stars; 1. Smell - this is a problem with these memory foam products, they smell toxic, like burnt plastic and antifungal spray. No one wants that smell in their bedroom and certainly, you can't cuddle up and sleep with something that smells so bad. So my experience of memory foam has been in the very long time it take to air out and off-gas it. But this wedge was bed ready in just 24 hours! A new record for me. 2. Firmness - there isn't much point to a wedge if it compresses to the thickness of a double stuff oreo, but this is firm enough to lift you from the top of the bed and soft enough for it not to cause painful pressure points on my shoulder (I'm a side sleeper). 3. Width - this is a wider wedge and I thought that alone would make this more comfortable, no more rolling off onto the non elevated portion of my bed. But it is the length that really makes this comfortable. It is long enough that my torso isn't off of the end and the gradual rise makes my back feel better. I didn't even realize that I was having back pain until I woke up without it! This wedge isn't terribly high, so I am not super elevated next to my husband who just uses regular pillows in bed. Also, it doesn't slide around as much as my old wedge, maybe because it is anchored by my butt. Also this wedge has been really comfy for my shoulder because I side sleep. The only downside and it's minor and didn't affect my enjoyment is that there is no pillowcase for this wedge. the pillowcases I had for my old wedges (I've had about five now) didn't fit and so I wrapped my robe around it so that I could start to use it, not pretty, but it does the trick.
