We just expected to be able to insert thermometer into the meat and get a temperature. Well that is too much to expect from this paticular meat thermometer. It is extremely hard to insert this into any meats without almost breaking it. It's very flimsy so you must take extreme care when trying to insert, that takes a few minutes. Also when you finally get it in the center of the meat it takes forever to get a reading. While you are holding it there to get a temperature (also takes forever) it starts to burn your hand from the heat. Anyway it's not even worth the very inexpensive price that it's going for. In fact they really should try to make a better quality meat thermometer and just discontinue this one. I had a 3 inch thermometer and it frequently singed my fingers on the grill - and one day it died on my from overheating. These are long enough where they spare your fingers and let your meats on the grill be the ones actually cooking.
