Q: Does it come with some kind of TSA approval certification paper? I could see this being a problem even though, in theory, it's allowed.

I have had no problem throughout the USA as well as Amsterdam and Frankfurt airports. However, I recently traveled to Mexico and on the way back the Mexican equivalent of TSA confiscated it, likely because they wanted it for themselves. They just pointed at a photo of a multitool with a blade and said see, it's not allowed. I said it doesn't have a blade and then they gave me trouble about the pliers. So it's gone. Don't fly with this to developing countries because it won't come back with you. No issue with TSA though, once they see it has no blade.

Q: Does this item come with a pocket clip?

There is no pocket clip. But the bottle opener is also a carabiner clip of sorts so you can attach it to your keys, belt loop, or what have you.

Q: is this allowed in schools specifically junior high

Without knowing what your specific school policy is, I would say, "yes." Only because there is no blade or knife like tool on this multi-tool. I was able to get it through TSA (airport security) for overseas travel, multiple times, each time it was declared at security of course. At the same time, I am not clear why you would need to carry this in junior high school. Also, you should reference your school policy and clear with your head of school or risk have it confiscated.

Q: I see both this (the 831488) and another model (the 831487) for sale on Amazon. The two items look identical - is there a difference?

The difference is in the packaging. 831487 comes in a blister pack, while 831488 comes in a small, 'firewood' box. Personally, I prefer the box. FWIW, there is also a 831489 'gift box'.
