## Description

Product Description Rain Bird SSF70-50S Drip Irrigation Pressure Compensating 1/2" (0.700" outside diameter) Sub-Surface Emitter Tubing with Copper Shield Technology, 18" Emitter Spacing, 50' Roll, Copper colored. Rain Bird's patented Copper Shield Technology prevents plant roots from growing into the Drip emitters in this unique copper-colored 1/2" Drip tubing. "The Copper-Color Outside Ensures that the Copper Shield is Inside!" Patent-pending Copper Shield Technology is the latest innovation in the Rain Bird Drip Irrigation family protecting emitters from root intrusion for a long-lasting maintenance free system. Sub-surface Drip tubing provides 90% watering efficiency by irrigating plants directly at their roots with low-pressure emitters. Rain Bird's patented emitter design uses a pressure-compensating diaphragm technology to water all plants equally throughout the length of tubing. The design avoids clogging by continuously flushing debris through an extra-wide turbulent flow path. The low-profile emitter reduces in-line pressure loss; allowing longer lateral runs to simplify system design and reduce installation time. The 50' roll of 1/2" tubing features an emitter every 18" with an output of 0.9 gallon-per-hour at an operating pressure of 8.5 to 60 psi. Rain Bird's copper colored dual-layered tubing (copper over black) provides unmatched durability and resistance to UV damage, chemicals and algae growth. A proprietary material blend provides industry leading flexibility allowing tighter turns with fewer elbows for fast and easy installation. Perfect for small, narrow and tight planting areas, as well as areas with tight curves or many switchbacks. Compact coiling method allows tubing to remain coiled as its extracted; making it easy to use, store and eliminates waste. Unique Micro-Porous design creates an ultra-tight connection; tubing expands over fittings then shrinks making it almost impossible to remove without cutting. The resulting seal is completely leak-proof and fittings won’t pull out; just cut tubing to remove fittings and expand. Tubing accepts Rain Bird Easy Fit Compression, Barbed Insert and all other 17mm barbed insert fittings. Specifications: outside diameter 0.700", inside diameter 0.580", wall thickness 0.060". Operating pressure: 8.5 to 60 psi. Flow rate: 0.9 GPH. Review: Easy to work with - I had this drip line installed at my last house by a landscaping company, who spoke highly of the quality and copper to keep out roots. This emitter line is easy to cut and connect to fittings, especially on a warm and sunny day. The only challenge is that it wants to coil back up after unrolling, so be prepared to use something to hold it down or have someone help. I wish I would have waited for someone to be home to help since the landscape staple things I was using were popping out of the soft soil. Also, if you will be using this in a grid pattern and not just a straight run, you will need more than you think. I quickly ran out and needed another roll. I'm glad it's a good price and desertcart has fast shipping. I now no longer need to pull my hose across my yard to water a patch of wildflowers on a hill behind a tall retaining wall. My sprinkler timer and the drip lines now take care of it.
Review: Good product - Used it for a drip for two flower strips. Works good!

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Can emitters be added between the weep holes if 18" is too far apart? Thank you!**
A: I haven't done so, but I imagine it is possible if you clamp the two sides once you put the emitter in. Just be careful not to cut too closely to the weep holes. You won't be able to put the emitter in if you do so because a little plate extends about 1 1/2 inches out from each weep hole.

**Q: Is this a recycleable plastic when I tear it out?**
A: Yes But it’s made to reuse over and over and over I’ve had mine for over 10 years and it still works fine connections everything but yeah somewhere down the road down it is all recyclable

**Q: That I have to set a timer or the water has to be running all the time?**
A: I run it on my irrigation schedule as a landscape zone. Running it all the time would be like leaving your hose on all the time.

**Q: I see I can add emitters but that defeats the underground advantage. Can I simply put additional holes in the tubing to meet my spacing needs?**
A: I do not rec underground use. They have 1/4 inche tubing for side branches to individual plants. No do not cut holes. Insert emmiter. I like the big tool with blade and extraction for the emmiter. The red emmiter I believe are adjustable. The black ones come with .5 gal and 1 gal an hour. Buy both they are cheap. The 1/2 inche tubing is sold without holes. I have two berry plots about 20 ft apart. I use the plain tubing for the 20 ft to save water. For garden time varies due to weather and plants you have in garden. I have timer and set for every 3 days for 39-45 minutes. Look at your plants. If health continue. You do not want to soak the soil. Too much water is harmful. Some of the timers have rain sensors. The timer has to be exposed to rain. Mine aren’t. I just cut off faucet until soil needs water. They systems are reliable. Rain bird has cut off valves you can put inline in case there are ares you want to turn off Ex when planting garden and only have few plants in ground. Rain bird has connectors for anything you might want to do. They are not made for yard irrigation. Lawn mower could suck it up and cut. Mine is 3 years old and looks good as new. Again you need to heat end of tubing in very hot water to soften. This connection an easy job.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Works great

I tee'd this into an existing drip line. The thin wall kinks somewhat easily so you need to be careful when installing it when making smaller loops. The copper coating is a nice feature.
