Having always divided opinion with her controversial private life while ultimately possessing one of the greatest voices of her generation, Amy Winehouse's life came to a tragic end in the summer of 2011. Lioness: Hidden Treasures is an album that features previously unreleased material from the late singer, including a duet with rapper Nas on "Like Smoke" and a touching cover of Ruby & the Romantics' 1963 hit single "Our Day Will Come." Review: There are some true gems here - These are the remaining unreleased songs by Amy Winehouse. Within her short and tragic life she managed to present a synopsis of work that truly showed she was a genius and a truly gifted artist. Here we have covers of some classics and alternate takes of songs already released plus a few never heard before. The covers are simply amazing and she makes each her own. OUR DAY WILL COME is sublime. She totally reinvents THE GIRL FROM IPANEMA with a stupendous vocal performance. WILL YOU STILL LOVE ME TOMORROW gets a very dramatic presention and her vocals match it with an intense emotional performance. Whatever the song or style of music Amy Winehouse always showed an inate understanding of the music and approached each song with all she had. Her true range and emotional capacity was always amazing. BEST FRIENDS, RIGHT is an excellent heartfelt song and we get alternate versions of TEARS DRY and WAKE UP ALONE which were both on BACK TO BLACK. One of the true standout tracks is her duet with Tony Bennett BODY AND SOUL. Her vocal interpretation is haunting and lovely displaying her at her best. There are some true gems here and even the lesser tracks shine as they get that added dimension for they are being interpreted by a truly gifted artist. The untimely death of Amy Winehouse was a true tragedy and thankfully this collection has no filler and does her memory justice. Review: Wow! - I became an Amy Winehouse fan back in 2007, after she became a Grammy nominee. After hearing about all the Grammy nominations she'd received I decided to purchase "Back to Black" and was floored by her powerhouse vocals. Amy continues to deliver on "Lioness: Hidden Treasures". As with "Back to Black" I can listen to every track on the cd. My favorites on Lioness are "Our day will come", Between the cheats, Valerie, which is a re-release, Like Smoke, with guest rap by Nas, who has more air-time on the track than Amy, "The Girl from Ipanema, you will like this if you know what scat-singing is, (think Ella Fitzgerald. I also like this version of "Wake up alone on this cd, it has a more acoustic feel. All in all, I like this cd as much as "Back to Black". If you are an Amy Winehouse fan you will want to purchase this album, if you aren't it is still worth a listen. In an age where truly gifted singers are few and far between, Amy was the exception. RIP Dear Amy!

If you like Amy Winehouse you'll greatly enjoy this album.
Great mix of songs that are not on any one album and the duet with Tony Bennett is exceptional. We lost someone who would have given much more when she passed so young. Very enjoyable album and you can tell she had fun doing some of these numbers with other performers and producers.

Amy Winehouse, The Lioness
Lioness may have been assembled in a rush, but I actually think it is a very good representation of her talent and an excellent CD. I have not always been a fan.....not because I didn't believe in her talent as a artist, but more due to the inconsistency of the performance. Amy Winehouse was at times amazing and had the ability to take an older song and give it a new twist with her voice, her rhythm and her style. I loved her interpretations of "A Song For You" and "The Girl From Ipanema" These covers as well as the originals of the songs she wrote are beautiful. You sometimes listen and wonder what decade she was born and performed..... are we back in Paris, NY with the beginnings of Jazz or here in 2011? It is a really beautiful CD. May she rest in peace.

A Great Last Effort
I've read other reviews prior to purchasing this album and although the vast majority were positive, there were those hard-core fans who were disappointed, because they didn't consider this package to be a new third album by Amy, as well as were disappointed that a few tracks/alternative takes of her old songs were included on this. Well, firstly I must say that I was well aware that prior to buying this album, that the producers and record company had very little vault material to work with and did their best to put together one last album in memory of Amy. And with that said, they did an excellent job producing this project. I was not disappointed. The CD is a good listen from track one until the final track, a rarity in today's music world. I didn't have to or want to skip any track. Some of my favorites are "Our Day Will Come" Classic Amy Sound, "Tears Dry" I love this stripped down version- it highlights her beautiful voice, "Like Smoke," this could be a big hit. Nas flows nicely on this track and they both compliment each other. I can see a Grammy Nomination next year for Best Vocal/Rap collaboration, for "Like Smoke." I see from reviews that some did not like Amy's version of "The Girl From Ipanema," but I like it a lot, it really shows her jazz vocal styling, as well as it has a nice contemporary hip hop beat, which makes it more modern and approachable to younger audiences. "Half Time," is another track that I find outstanding and can see being a hit. As someone else mentioned in their review, if you heard this on the radio, you would swear it was Eryka Badu (another excellent vocalist), they both sound alike on this track. I love the whole grove of this track and can see Neo Soul die-hard fans gravitating to this track. The last two tracks seem appropriately placed, as "Body and Soul," was her last recording, which is an excellent recording that showcases her jazz vocal stylings that is very comparable to Billie Holiday. And the last song, "A Song For You, " was a bitter-sweet end track, because it sums up her life and career, as she at times struggled and slurred her way through the track, but in the end she delivers her song just for you.

Treasures no longer hidden!
Amy was one of a kind, and every CD of hers is one of a kind. I cannot get enough and play her CD's over and over; each time I appreciate something new, something emotionally powerful in the band and the vocals. This has the original recording of Wake up Alone and it's one of the finest torch songs ever written. Some of the lyrics on this track: he's fierce in my dreams, seizing my guts, he floods me with dread, soaked to his soul he swims in my eyes by the bed, pour myself over him, moon spilling in.....who couldn't feel the angst and passion in Amy's song? As music enriched her world, her music has enriched and inspired mine! Rest in peace, Amy. You are loved. This CD is indeed a treasure - everything I hoped for and more - many genres in one! Play at 45 speed NOT 33!
I've seen a lot of negative reviews people saying it's not her singing that it's a man sing. It is her but after listening to it, I realized it plays on 45 speed not 33. It sounded great on 33 but it did sound a bit like George Duke. PEOPLE CHANGE YOUR RECORD SPEED! ITS MEANT TO BE PLAYED AY 45 SPEED!

Not safe for driving...
When Our Day Will Come and Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow? came out it was the early 60s, I was a teenager, and I remember disliking both songs... but Amy breathes life into both songs that neither ever... ever possessed before. The Girl from Ipanema by G&G I enjoyed very much when it came out, but Amy nails it in her own unique and soulful way and makes it her own. Over all this is a wonderful collection. The only song I disliked was Like Smoke which was more like fingernails on a blackboard. But that's only one. The other eleven are well worth the price. But don't drive and listen... The child will wrench your soul and make you weep.
