Nima gluten sensor is quite a bargain -- Capsules are in stock now January 2021
Sending away a sample for a gluten-free-or-not exam ie estimating gluten, costs a couple hundred dollars minimum. That's for ONE determination. I didn't do that, to assay gluten in my medicine SuperMannan® , even though I only wanted that one test done. At the least I'd want to do it in duplicate. So it was cheaper to buy a Nima tester. However, when I got the tester, there were no capsules available and Amazon did not know when the capsules would be back in stock. I kept the sensor; the tester. I figured somebody would take up the slack, and then there'd be a long line to get the sensor instrument. Well, the capsules came back to Amazon as "available" and I got some and the little machine worked just like the instructions said it worked. The instructions could be a little clearer, maybe. Now that I know how it works it's hard to remember what was the confusing part. Just have faith in your new Nima and follow the simple instructions as well as you can and it will work just fine. Little flashing lights come on to alert you that all is well, and then another light to tell you the result. Read carefully the part about how if the food you're testing is a powder, you should wet it some. I think that should say "Make a slurry". I sent the whole unit and the rest of the capsules to my kid who has celiac disease. Maybe he'll write a review also; he has more experience with gluten affairs than I do. So my opinion is that this Nima is a great device and a real bargain; my advice is to make SURE that the capsules are in stock before you ever order this device. My faith was rewarded, yours might not be. Good luck!

Very Effective...when you can get the cartridges!
I was diagnosed with celiac disease four months ago, and purchased my Nima two months ago. It is absolutely fantastic to have a way to test packaged and restaurant food, because I feel horrible for days when I accidentally consume gluten. Unfortunately, the cartridges have not been available for the past month. And looking through comments from others, this is a common problem. I am not able to purchase cartridges, which means the $229 test kit was a waste of money. And the even bigger issue is that I cannot test my food before consuming it. That means I either have to risk getting sick, or go back to eating single ingredient, unprocessed foods that I prepare at home. I've seen statistics thrown around that one out of every three food items that is labeled "gluten free" will actually contain gluten. That is far too great of a risk for me. Nima has the potential to be life changing. But not if their supply chain is consistently broken. Edited 12/12/20 I was able to order cartridges 11/20/20 for the first time in five months. There was no communication from Nima or Medline during the five months this product was unavailable. When they arrived, they expire in 4 months instead of the 8-12 months promised in the product description. I still have no idea if the supply chain has been fixed because there is no communication.

Shipped nearly expired capsules
I’m a longtime Nima user and these capsules are phenomenal. However, the last two orders have had VERY short shelf lives. This is after a price increase that was claimed to extend the shelf life to 1 year. I ordered multiple boxes total of $550+ and they seem to all expire end of July.

Travel game changer
I’ve had a Nima since the beginning- it has literally saved me dozens of times (maybe over 100?). I travel a lot- sometimes to places where no one speaks English so purchase and ordering food can be difficult. This has been a game changer. Sure- $6/capsule adds up. Know what really adds up? Hospital bills. I’ll pay $6 every meal if it means avoiding the hospital. Yes- sometimes you get an error. I find that this is usually due to putting the incorrect type of food or too much in the capsule. When I’m 100% sure I did it right, I contact Nima support and they make it right. If you have celiac disease- you 100% want this.

Expire in 2 months from receipt
The capsules work great. I've only had one capsule not work in all the 4+ years we have used these. My issue is availability. The capsules I order on February 20,2021 expire on April 2,2021. That's just over two months for 6 capsules and we don't use them that frequently. At over $5.00 a capsule if I only use one or two before the expire that is a cost of $15.00 per test. I don't feel comfortable risking my health on a expired test capsule.

Magic for celiacs. Get your life back. Eat out again!
Nima has changed my life, post celiac diagnosis. It’s hard to phantom the impact of not being able to eat out and be confined to a home kitchen + a few fringe gluten free restaurants. Nima opened up the rest of culinary world again. Being able to eat out with the confidence that errant gluten will be caught by Nima before it has a chance to make me sick is magic. The team behind Nima is under recognized for the incredible work they have done here. Thank you.

Capsules not Working!
I bought a box of 6 and 3 of them worked. I wasted 2 of them on trying to test a sample of steak with bacon. I thought maybe the first time I had to big of a piece so next text I used a smaller sample. I looked at the manual and nothing is noted about steak. When you are doing everything to stay healthy-reading ingredients, contacting the company (who noted they don't test for gluten) and they want to test with Nima and the capsules don't work-it is so disappointing. This is what I am finding-half the time the capsules work and half the time they don't. It is the worst especially when at a restaurant when you are just waiting for the results and it comes back with an error message. So frustrating! Is there any place at Nima where you can ask questions for help?

Expiration in 3 weeks
My husband has a severe allergy to wheat and Nima had been a great tool to detect gluten on so many occasions. During Covid the capsules we had all expired, so I ordered a new ones on June 24, 2021. I just received them, and to my disappointment, they will expire on July 22. I had read other reviews about the short supply and short life, but wasn’t expecting mere 3 weeks. We were hoping to take these to a trip scheduled in August, but I guess we’d have to use expired capsules, hoping they work ok. We’ve read about the changes in the company, so I assume the short supply and short life are symptoms of the turmoil. I hope the business side of things will improve soon as Nima is a great innovation that has helped so many.
