BLACK+DECKER 18 Volt Battery NiCd Single (HPB18-OPE)

It is difficult to find retail stores which carry this battery. Most retail outlets only carry the battery for the Black & Decker Drills and hand tools. I wanted a new battery for my Black & Decker outdoor trimmer (Hedge Hog). I found that Amazon quoted a reasonable price (the sale price for drill & hand-held tools batteries at regular retail establishments). The order was fulfilled by Amazon and delivered in a few days. This battery is performing extremely well and lasts through a whole trimming session. I am very pleased with this new battery and the length of time which it operates. Originally, my Hedge Hog came with two batteries, but they wear out with continuous usage. The new battery is great, and I am thinking about purchasing another for backup.

I AM VERY PLEASED TO REPORT THIS BATTERY PERFORMS AS ADVERTISED. NOT ONLY HAS IT MORE POWER THAN THE ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT BATTERY , BUT MORE STAYING POWER. I HAD THREE ORIGINAL BATTERIES FROM MY WEED WACKER AND SHRUB TRIMMER. IT TOOK 2 TO 3 FULLY CHARGED BATTERIES TO CUT AROUND MY YARD WITH THE WEED WACKER AND ORIGINAL BATTERIES. THE ONE NEW BATTERY DOES THE SAME JOB; WITH THE OLD BATTERIES THE POWER WAS INSUFFICIENT TO PROPERLY OPERATE THE STRING TRIMMER. I NO LONGER HAVE THAT PROBLEM WITH THE NEW BATTERY. I HAVE BOUGHT A SECOND NEW BATTERY PLUS A CHARGER AS SPARES. I LOVE THE EQUIPMENT AND I'M AFRAID NICKEL CAD BATTERIES WILL SHORTLY NOT BE AVAILABLE. BUT, I'M ALL SET!!!!

I use this battery on my weedeater. It takes approximately eight hours to charge, so I leave it charging overnight. The next morning it's good to go. It lasts about two hours before battery is completely drained. This is fine for me, since two hours at a time is all I can do anyway. I don't recommend a battery operated weedeater if you have large areas. No battery will last long enough. I've tried several, and this is the best. It's easy to install. One push, a click, and it's ready. I recommend this battery for smaller jobs.

If you read the reviews of these batteries it makes you think if you are wasting your money to keep a defective product running. The two batteries that came with my trimmer are now useless. I'm going to have to decide whether to buy another new battery because the one new one doesn't last long enough to do all the edging and trimming. Two new batteries will, effectively, cost what it would take to replace the trimmer and I do not know how long these new ones will last. I agree with other reviewers that Black and Decker has quality issues.

Wow I should have bought this sooner. I have an older 18V weed eater that works fine but the batteries only hold a charge for 10 minutes. All summer I could not decide between getting this new battery or just buying a nicer weed eater. In the end I am happy I just bought this battery. I have a larger yard with a bunch of side walks, and patios, to edge so I need a decent weed eater. This battery made my 5 plus year old weed eater feel like it was brand new. I am glad I went this route because my weed eater was fine. Battery life is very good. I was able to weed eat my entire yard and it only started to slow after a few minutes of using my blower. Would recomend for small to medium sized yards

I only could find the 410 variety at local super store so I took my chances on Amazon and ordered the HPB18-OPE. When it arived, I was happy to find the item marked as 415 which according to another reviewer is 1.5Ah. In fact the one I received is the same orange and black Single Source battery which came with the cordless chainsaw I recently got. So I'm happy with this purchase. OK. I've cycled through this battery twice now in my Cordless Chainsaw and I have to say I'm blown away. This thing is tearing through multiple trees which I never would have tackled with the original battery and still has plenty of life left in it. I really don't think the original battery ever was this powerful. (I got the chainsaw less than a month ago and have cycled that probably 30 times at least.) This is a good battery. At least for now. BTW, the packaging states "up to 50% more run time* compared to HPB18"

B & D's quality isn't what it used to be. I bought this on 5/18/2018, and it never reaches a full charge. Used to be, when the light went off, it was fully charged. Not any more! The charge light NEVER goes off. I bought a previous battery on 8/2/2017, and it no longer reaches a full charge. This is much, much less use, compared to previous batteries I've had from B & D. Time to find another brand. B & D, if you're reading this: you killed the goose that laid the golden egg, and there is no excuse for such crappy quality. This a.m., I was using a recently-charged battery, and the power lessened noticeably. I could not believe it didn't even last for 5 or 10 minutes, so I got my other battery that was also charged for several hours, more than overnight. It didn't have the power it normally had when fully charged. Update: Today I decided to e mail B & D, letting them know what a horrible product they have produced. I am afraid now to buy any other B & D products that use batteries, as I think they most likely are going to make cheaper & substandard batteries for all of their products. I will be back with more information if I hear from B & D. Update: As of Feb. 13, 2019, I have not received a response from B & D, so all I can conclude is that they agree they are making crappy batteries, intentionally, what a shame. B & D USED to be a very good name.

The OEM battery works great and holds lots of power. I had purchased in the past a cheaper "knock-off" battery that was supposed to be compatible but it never had the power or the ability to hold that power for very long. The extra money I spent on this original battery is by far worth every penny, I wish I had never tried to save a couple of bucks on the 1st replacement I bought.

Battery life is solid, and it performs very well.

Super! Retains power much longer than original battery. Now if I could find a company that would ship a Black & Decker GC18 18V cordless garden cultivator to me in Canada I'd be a very happy camper. In fact, I'd be so happy I would buy 2 of them. For some stupid reason, nobody in Canada seems to carry these awesome little machines and while lots of places in the US do stock them, they don't ship to Canada. With a quarter acre of property, I'm totally lost without my little cultivator which, after many years of use, is beginning to show signs of wearing out. Help!!
