After a bit of research, I decided on this heating pad and I am so glad I did. It has six temperature settings and four timer settings so you have complete control over the level of heat and amount of time. It heats up really quickly and obviously, unlike a hot water bottle stays warm for as long as you want. I found even the lower settings to be good and the top setting is really warm. It has an auto shut off after two hours, so you needn’t worry if you have left it on or you fall asleep whilst using. I think it is a really good size as it is big enough to cover the area you need but not too cumbersome. You can use it on your stomach, back, neck - basically wherever you feel pain and heat will help. It comes with a strap so if you want to wrap it around you can. The fabric is soft and it’s a real bonus that you can wash it after removing the power cable. I came back for more!I did a fair bit of research and reading before I bought this. Must be careful with my pension, I was so fed up filling hot water bottles holding them in my sink and then risking scolding hands while filling them up, as we get older and frailer a bottle would be lovely to prewarm the bed but its so dangerous. My husband (aged 90) has Alzheimers so it's essential I can put something safe in his bed to prewarm as his senses are diminished.I finally found the solution, every morning when I make the bed I put this into place for prewarming at night. I turn it on when I start making the hot chocolate and if he is watching a movie I use the timer to when the movie is finished … as soon as he comes to bed, I turn it off and roll it up next to the bed. It's not in the way and I have put the cables so he can't trip over anything as I roll it up and place it beside bed and bedside cabinet, takes me 3 seconds. Happy husband happy home, in fact I was quite jealous of his warm bed so I came back for more, I have one myself now. So why did I pick this one? Well the reviews were quite good but also I was concerned about safety, I did not want a heated underblanket I wanted something lightweight easy to move about and handle, something that wouldnot burn me.. So temperature is adjustable perfect, the control is large and clear bright led light for an elderly arthritic hand. There is more!I can move it easily sit in a cold window in the morning enjoying the first rays of the sun and put this on my shoulders or on my tummy. It's so nice I am like a cat purring.. (darned cat is trying to sit on it too!)It comes with a solid UK fused plug, it’s mains wiring not 12 volt skinny cables and I have been using it happily. It's supposed to be washable, but I haven’t yet too new.It’s much more than a bedwarmer, I ride a motorcycle after a 300 mile spin I regularly get cramp in my leg, well guess what the heat settles it down really well, neck pain? The cable is long enough for me in fact not too long as I can see me packing it in my motorcycle panniers on the go.. so neckwarmer, bed warmer, legs, tummy… the mind boggles .. Stop! too much information!There is an elasticated belt with Velcro to hold it in place if you really needed that but imagine a small scarf that just sits and becomes warm and much lighter than the dog or cat that is try to get on your lap. The material is comfortable and I place it against the skin (for my neck) or over a T-shirt.The pad is thin and flexible enough that it wraps around the back or the neck. The size is perfect for applying to one area at a time and also for taking on holiday.The strap is useful as it ensures the pad wraps around the lower back and stays close to the body, maximising heat transfer.It has a 1-6 heat scale and I generally use it on 4, or 5 if the pain is great or I don’t have time to use it for long.
