Great acrylic paints for the money! I ordered this set because I felt like painting with the acrylic craft paints you buy at Walmart in the little 2 or 4 Oz bottles was turning me off of painting. I had to use many layers to achieve the opacity I wanted. I figured out from some googling that what I wanted was "heavy-bodied" acrylic paints. I found these incredibly generous 16 oz. bottles of Mont Marte acrylic paint on an Amazon search for "heavy bodied acrylic art paint". Now, the options included single 4oz tubes of paint, some of which cost more than a quarter of the price of this whole set of 12 16oz bottles. Some of those paints may be heavier bodied, but for the size of some of what I want to do, this is far better financially. Now, I have to say there are two colors missing from this "basic set" - a cobalt and a basic true yellow. Mont Mart does sell these colors, just ala carte. My first effort using these colors in their pure form has been very satisfying. Of course I complicated it by also using my new airbrush and airbrush paints to do some detail over it so it is not completed yet, but I think it gives a good feel for the opacity of these paints, so I am posting a pic of my little Maneki Neko painting in progress. I started with a thin primer base of orange over my pencil sketch - I actually had to work fast to spread it thinly enough before it dried! Kinda perfect. Then I filled in all the large black, red, and white areas. I deliberately did not want to mix or dilute the paint so that I could see how it layered in a really basic way. As soon as I finish this little piece I am going to experiment with how well these colors mix. I did end up with two coats of the red to achieve the opacity I wanted - and minimize the effect of my undercoat. But those layers went on much more quickly and smoothly than the little bottles of craft paint ever did. And those could take 5 or 6 applications, or rub off while adding other elements. The Mont Mart paints win, hands down.

I love it. It’s thick paint. Very smooth, the color is great, and the coverage is amazing. The coverage is my favorite part because I don’t have to use a lot of paint, a little goes a long way. I was able to cover an entire 30x40 canvas with just a few drops of paint. I would definitely buy from this brand again.

This is a decent deal on a very good budget paint. The only frustrating thing - I got a purple instead of an ultramarine blue. Very frustrating. It's a color I use a lot. (Update - a pigment shortage of Ultramarine seems to have been the reason for the color substitute). Handling: if you like fast drying acrylic - this dries very fast. It spreads very smoothly! I tested it with US Art Supply retarding medium and matte medium - seemless. It takes layers exceptionally well. Different artist like different handling characteristics. Hopefully this helps. I give it 4 stars as it is an acrylic I can make very good use of. Update - more use and testing: This paint is pretty versatile. If you want good brush strokes, and pallet knife texture - you have to work it just long enough - as it just starts to tack (starts to set). If you want smooth blending, you need some solid skills in acrylic ...that is, you able to work fast. If you paint graphically - getting excellent control for sharp edges - this paint works great! This paint mixes well with Liquitex - keeping a nice satin finish, for those who like that. I got this for cheaper practice, and blocking layers to paint over. But I've found this to be a great fit for me. Every artist is different. Different techniques, speed, temperament. So different paint formulas will suit people differently. Also, you might be an individual who uses different brands. The formulas provide different characteristics you like for different uses. I am such a person. I'm not brand loyal - rather - I'm formula loyal. If a paint formula works for me - I don't care about the brand. Obvious note: you can only get so much from other people's reviews. I stand by my original review. This is solid budget paint! For myself, I'd give it 4.75 stars. But that's because it suits me very well. Some acrylic paints feel more gel like - as you spread it ...a slight gummy feel. These spread almost like a fine powdery feel - sliding easily. I love this feel. Seeking to be objective/impartial - I stand by 4 stars for this excellent budget paint.

Monte Mart acrylic paints have great quality. The colors are bright and crisp. Good price on top of it!! Very pleased!
