Great Roll Pin Punch Set That Makes Gunsmithing So Much Easier
The Grip 9โpiece roll pin punch set is a huge help for firearm work. The punches are wellโmade, sized right, and they donโt slip or mushroom easily. Installing and removing roll pins used to be a hassle, but this set made my life so much easier โ everything seats cleanly, the punches stay stable, and the whole job goes faster with less frustration. A solid, dependable kit for anyone doing gunsmithing or regular firearm maintenance.

Pin Punches
These appear to be solid and work fine.......but, one word of caution. When I ordered these the end of the punches appeared to be flat.........They are not! These have a small rounded portion on the very tip of the business end of the punch. Which makes them work fine a roll pin that is slight sunk or, has an open center, in which the small node, will fit into.....to keep the punch from sliding when you strike it. I would not recommend using them for a pin, such as the tapered pins used in Gas Blocks.....ie., pins that protrude slight from the hole and are rounded. You can try, if you like, but, on a round protruding pin, the punch will fly off immediately and, if you hit that punch hard enough, it is very likely to put a pretty good ding/hole area adjacent to the pin you are trying to remove or replace. I have built up a kit of punches.........I have a set of these, a set of punches that have a flat tip and some other assorted punches. Some recommend "Not using" metal punches, but, rather plastic or brass.......what I found to be frustrating is that plastic, hit enough times or sometimes just hard........can crack and/or shatter and, the brass will inevitable bend or warp.......after so many heavy duty whacks (which are often required on pins to break them lose). I am always careful to place something over the pin or around the pin (use the punch to put a hole in thin cardboard or whatever)......then place the cardboard on the weapon so that only the pin shows and tape it so it won't move.......then you can use the punch, if you hold it secure......without too much fear of the punch flying off the pin and whacking your rifle........I'm sure there are other methods you could think of.........The bottom line, the metal punches are fine, if you use the right protection and, the right sized punch......and have whatever you are working on sitting on something that evening supports it. For example, to me, it was worth the $40 dollars to buy an engineered finalic (sp?) block.......for working on (changing, cleaning etc., the gas blocks on my AR's.....Like the punches I use that rarely, but, when I need them I have them........

Works perfect for even the most stubborn pins!
People saying these don't work are just wrong, or received a different item than I did. I removed some very stubborn roll pins on my M&P pistol, so stubborn a thin layer of steel was shaved off the pin. Zero issues with the smaller sized punches, I cant speak for the larger ones as I did not used them, but if anything the bigger punches are thicker so shouldn't have any issue. I only used 1/16, 5/64, and 3/32 the smallest three, no bends, chips or issue with the punches. Make sure you use a very light weight hammer for the small punches or you will get bends on any punch set. I used a 4 OZ ball peen hammer small, rapid, light taps. If you use a standard sized hammer with the small pins dont complain when you bend them. I nearly did not buy this due to all the bad reviews, now I can confidently say that if you know how to actually use roll pins you wont have any issues. I just wouldnt buy them for long term, prolonged use, but for a few projects now and then no issue. The center ball is slightly off center on some punches, it caused no issue what so ever. Would recommend.

Excellent Basic Set for Light Duty - and US Made!
I picked this set up for some light home gunsmithing as an adjunct to some brass punches and more traditional straight pin punches. These make removing roll pins so much easier and without damaging the pin. The little dome on the front on the front of the punch stabilizes the inside of the roll pin to keep it from mushrooming out, an unfortunate occurrence with traditional flat-faced pin punches that can lead to suck or hard to re-insert pins. I've used them a handful of times to drive out some particularly stubborn pins and haven't had any problems with them bending or breaking; I don't know if this is the set I would choose if I made my livelihood out of driving roll pins but for the light duty, occasional use this set can't be beat - especially at this price. The variety of sizes it comes with have worked on all of the pins I've come across, regardless of whether the pins were metric or standard. This also comes with a nice tool roll for storing the pins in, either rolled up or hung on a pegboard; not something you always get anymore. It's also made in the USA (GRIP is Grand Rapids Industrial Products), unlike many other inexpensive alternatives, which is just another plus in my book.

Don't ruin your roll pins using standard flat face punches
I've been building a new rifle as well as having maintained and upgraded AR rifles for a while and typically used standard punches for removing and replacing roll pins with no trouble at all until not long ago I had a stubborn sight tower roll pin that wouldn't come out so I invested in this set, immediately upon removing these from the packaging it's very obvious the difference between these roll pin punches and standard flat face punches. The first thing you'll notice is the tip is rounded for better fit on the end of a hollow roll pin so these are designed very well and it took three taps on the pins that wouldn't come out before no matter how many times I hammered on it and how hard, but I used the proper sized roll pin punch and my soft head mallet and three taps and the roll pin that wouldn't come out before drifted straight out and I was done so don't risk damage to your firearm by using the wrong tool because even though the wrong tool works most of the time there will be one that will not come put until you have the proper tool for the job. This set is nicely made, easy to grip and you have plenty of punches to make sure you have the right size instead of one that's too small and the next up size is too big but with these you should have the right size for the right pin and there's even a nice slotted pouch that each punch fits perfectly in so even though the price is cheap, the quality of the tools and the pouch are very well made BC

Get the right tool for the job! K.I.S.S.
Dont know why ive been using regular punches for years now, these things work perfectly for roll pins large or small. Haven't used them on any guns though, just on large agricultural equipment. Get the right tool for the job and save yourself the headache and painted fingers. Oh they do gal up a little when hit with intention but it's just cosmetic. They work better than expected especially for the price, well compared to mac or snap on. A++

UPDATE: Two Different Versions, Same Part Numbers. One is Better Than the Other
UPDATE: It appears that there are two different versions of punches, both carrying the same part number. If you look at the user submitted pictures some are a solid matte color and the others are polished with a black handle and a black tip. Some of the handles on the matte set are smaller, and some of the shafts are thicker, for example the 3/32" polished punch is .090 in. and the matte is .100 in. The matte version has less of a shoulder on the tips so they will center the roll pin better. The matte version has a weird exception though the 3/32" top has a huge shoulder with a tiny dome and is rounded. Overall the matte version is better. Original: Very cheap and easy to bend. The heads are poorly made and will damage roll pins. One of the punches is not even for a roll pin it is just has a dome on the top. I consider these to be single use only and I gave it 2 stars because the pouch it came with is not bad, otherwise it's a one star product. I should have listened to the other 1 star reviews.

Great price !
I bought these for some basic gunsmithing needs. These were the cheapest ones that I could find that have a rolled tip. Haven't used them much, but they appear to be well made.
