Is it good for hanging plants?

I guess you can use for this purpose. It's sturdy , so I do not see a problem to hanging plants in baskets

Mine didn't come with screws, what size are they so I can assemble everything?

The few screws that came with it are operated w a little wrench Not sure if you just by screws because they were attached to other parts. Most just fits together

space between racks is too close can you get extensions even with the adustable cross bar?

They are wider options if you keep looking or order two. I could not do without these racks.

where was this manufactured?

I'm sure it's China, but it is NOT poor quality. I tried 2 other racks that fell apart. This reach us currently holding over 100 shirts top and bottom for over 3 months and hasn't buckled or bent or topped over. It's very easy to move, even on carpet.
