It is a large reservoir that has a part that you insert into the dirt. It has a clear indicator on the side so you can see how full the water is inside. The glass reservoirs never seem to work--they always clog up in some way and I notice days later that they are still completely full (and the plant is dry). I've had no problems with this one getting clogged by dirt or such. The only downside is that you must be able to put the plant up against a wall, since there is an unsightly large plastic green water reservoir otherwise. But for reliability, you can't beat it! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ They work even outdoors in Florida! *by F***Z on Reviewed in the United States on July 22, 2019* I've probably ordered a total of close to 100 of these, all for outdoor use in potted herb garden or citrus bushes. On some of the larger plants or thirstier plants I use 5-7 of them, smaller plant 3-4. Depending on time of year, I fill them once every 5-7 days.Do water the plants thoroughly first, then the containers, so the dry soil doesn't suck too much water from the get-go.
