Worked right out of the box
I have two of the Slamtec A1M8s, but needed the O&M of the smaller A2M8 version as I had limited room to mount the Lidar on the front of my Traxxas 1/10 scale 4WD Slash Truck Chassis. I have built a Lidar test fixture that consists of a Rpi 3B+ and a Waveshare LCD display that is programmed with the Adafruit RPLidar Python program to display range data as dots on the LCD display. As expected, the A2M8 worked right out of the box, however, unlike its A1M8 cousin, the turret does not start spinning until the display program request range data and then it begins to spin. If you have an application for a Lidar, but have limited mounting space, this is the Lidar for you.
