Although the roots of Lynyrd Skynyrd go back as far as 1965, it was not until 1973 that they released their first album, having then only recently settled on the name that would take them through their lengthy - albeit at times tragic - history. Along with their debut and its stand out classic Free Bird, further fame and huge exposure came the group's way via their securing of a support slot on the Who's 'Quadrophenia' tour of the USA the same year. Skynyrd's follow-up escaped the notorious sophomore album slump by employing strong song-writing and including the evergreen hit single Sweet Home Alabama among its riches. But it was in 1975 that the real success of the group came to the fore following the release of their 'Nuthin' Fancy' album - Lynyrd Skynyrd's first top 10 Billboard album - and the tour that followed in its wake. The group's first major headlining shows and their first ventures overseas, carried out across 14 months of solid gigging, led to an explosion in the popularity of the group. It was during this extravaganza that the recordings on this CD were captured as part of a radio broadcast made from their Chattanooga, Tennessee gig in March of 75, along with three bonus track recorded while at the LA Forum a few weeks later. During these superb broadcasts the public at large were allowed to sample the goods along with those already dedicated enough to have purchased a ticket, and thus, the word spread farther and wider and by the conclusion of this incredible road trip Lynyrd Skynyrd were musical superstars. How tragic therefore that little more than two years after these shows were performed, three of Lynyrd Skynyrd - lead singer Ronnie Van Zant, guitarist Steve Gaines and his sister, vocalist Cassie Gaines - were all killed (along with their assistant tour manger and two others) when the plane in which they were travelling ran out of fuel and crashed in the woodlands of Gillsburg, Mississippi. Review: Last four tracks? - Enjoyed this very much regardless of the bootleg audio quality. The last 4 tracks are listed as L.A. Forum 1975, but to my ears they certainly sound like a live in-studio performance that were so popular back then, although I have no idea what studio or when. The applause after the first three tracks at least is indicative of a small in-studio audience, not a huge arena like the L.A. Forum. Also they do "Cheatin' Woman" which is rather rare. There's a bizarre ambience to these four tracks, almost like you were listening in on a band rehearsal. For the collector who has a lot of Skynyrd live stuff, this is a nice addition and worth it just for these four tracks alone. Review: NOT THEIR BEST TRAIN!! - I LOVE SKYNYRD, BUT THIS IS ONLY NON-5 STAR OF ALL THEIR STUFF. ONLY BECAUSE IT IS NOT RECORDED VERY WELL, EXCEPT FOR FREEBIRD, WHICH IS ALWAYS RECORDED GOOD. IF YOU WANT SKYNYRD LIVE, ONE MORE FROM THE ROAD IS THE BEST LIVE ALBUM OF ANY BAND. OF COURSE THEY ARE MY FAVORITE GROUP, SO FEEL FREE TO DISAGREE. BUT YOU HAVE GOT TO TRY T FOR TEXAS LIVE @ THE FOX IN ATLANTA, OR IN ENGLAND, WOW!! ALL OF RONNIE'S MULES MAKE IT MY FAVORITE SONG. TRY IT, YOU'LL SEE WHY!! NOT ON THIS CD, BUT IT'S ON A COUPLE OTHERS.

Great Early Live Lynyrd Skynyrd Recording
CHATTANOOGA CHOO CHOO is a great live radio broadcast of Lynyrd Skynyrd featuring Ed King on third guitar. True the intro and first part of the opener, "I Ain't The One", are cut off, and the sound quality isn't great, but it shows that live concerts aren't usually as polished-sounding as a band's records. This CD shows Lynyrd Skynyrd at an early peak as a live band before King left due to exhaustion.

The original Lynyrd live but audio could have been better
Lynyrd Skynyrd music is hard to find live from the originals, and now the bootlegs are coming out in the main stream, some good, and some not so good on the sound. This one is a not so good on the sound, but it is them just before the plane crashed, so you have that...

Great, but beware the shrieking fan,
Lynyrd Skynyrd, simply put, are the best at what they did. This recording would have reflected that if it was of better quality. I love anything Skynyrd so I do enjoy this recording, but the shrill of the shrieking female in the audience makes me gringe. So many songs from Nuthin' Fancy is awesome. If you're a fan this is definitely a must. I give the performance 5 stars but the recording quality only 3 stars.

Definitely a rare find and a must have of any Skynyrd fan. The album starts off kind of abruptly and the sound isn't the greatest but there are some great songs that you don't ever hear live.

Must admit the price attracted me to this CD being three pounds under the cost of a current new release. I already own several Lynyrd Skynyrd albums however. Listening to it right now as I type this review and the songs sound as good as ever. I cannot really see anything wrong with the sound quality and no complaints from me. Excellent audience reaction in this concert recording and definitely worth adding to the collection at that price. Notice that several terrible reviews were submitted within a few days of each other and maybe some people still have a misguided idea about the Confederate flag image and the lyrics of one particular famous song of Lynyrd Skynyrd. Forgive me if you guys are genuine fans who are just very hard to please but I cannot see where you are coming from.

Track Listing LP1 1. I Ain't The One 2. I'm A Country Boy 3. The Needle And The Spoon 4. Saturday Night Special 5. Don't Ask Me No Questions 6. Am I Losin'? 7. Made In The Shade 8. Railroad Song 9. Call Me The Breeze 10. Sweet Home Alabama LP2 1. Sweet Home Alabama 2. Cheatin' Woman 3. Working For The MCA 4. Free Bird

Okay, the sound quality isn't great but it is still very listenable. This show has been doing the rounds as a bootleg for years and now via some legal loophole gets an official, though not sanctioned by the band, release. The first 10 tracks that make up the bulk of the disc include several songs from Nuthin' Fancy that are not available in live form elsewhere. Also it includes the acoustic based Made In The Shade, which was a rare occurrence for the original Skynyrd to go semi-unplugged on stage. Recorded on the 1975 'Torture Tour' the band are tight and well drilled. Pretty soon Ed King would leave the band, burnt out from the endless touring. The beginning of I Ain't The One and the end of Sweet Home Alabama' are both missing (as are Workin' For MCA & Freebird) but this is as per the original bootleg - lost forever i guess. The four 'Bonus' tracks that claim to be recorded at the LA Forum in 1975 are clearly NOT!!!! And this is the naughty bit!! The track listed as Cheatin' Woman is actually Woman Of Mine, and this track, along with (the second version of) Sweet Home Alabama and Workin' For The MCA (sic) are actually taken from the 1973 Memphis radio session, which is available in it's entirety on the official Skynyrd release 'Collectybles'. The Version of Freebird I believe is actually the version recorded in 1975 for the BBC Old Grey Whistle Test programme, which I'm not sure has actually been released on CD before . The slipcase is a nice touch and it's great to see the legendary Allen Collins up front and central on the cover. No real sleeve notes of any merit in the 4 page booklet. So all in all, this is probably for hardcore Skynyrd fans only, and I'm sure if you search the internet you could find a download of the original 10 track bootleg if you are curious, or find it on Youtube. If you want to check out some real good quality 'Lyve Skynyrd' you wont go far wrong with the classic One More From The Road album - which is 40 years old in 2016 - will there be a anniversary edition with the full 3 shows over 6 discs, similar to the Allmans recent Fillmore set?? - I hope so!!
