Review: Learned new skill - these are perfect - Quality brakes - easy to install (after watching a couple YouTube videos just to make sure I am adjusting them and spacing them correctly. I am NOT a bike mechanic - but, I'm not afraid of trying to do things myself, and I figure, if I'm shifting from marathons to Sprint-->Olympic triathlon style events, I'm going to be on a bike a whole lot more (previously only when suffering a running injury)... hence, I better know how to fix things myself - if you're out on a ride and something breaks, you're the only one you can count on, just be prepared and knowledgeable. My other brakes weren't "bad" - but they were stock... I figure I can upgrade my brakes, brake lines, saddle, safety features, etc - all on my own - learn a skill and be self-sufficient - and have a little fun along the way. These brakes are easy - complete (have all the parts you need). They are of course sleek, classy/very sharp looking, operate flawlessly, and actually pretty easy to install. If you haven't before, and are thinking about it... just do it... these are inexpensive and very nice... the only thing is I wish I had ordered a rear set as well (when you buy the lines, it comes with lines for both front & back)... that way I KNOW they're both NEW and installed correctly... if not, then I can only blame myself! Review: Top quality at good price, easy installation - Bought both front and rear set to replace the criminally cheap no-name junk that came on my wife’s bike. Being Shimano, the quality is top notch at very reasonable price. Installation was simple. I also replaced the cables at the same time, which I cannot recommend strongly enough. It makes no sense to install new brakes on and keep the old cruddy cables. Adjustment of the brakes dialed in perfectly just like they show on all the bike maintenance videos. The cheap original breaks just would not adjust right. The end result is rock solid braking, no squealing or rubbing pads and most importantly a safe bike for riding. Trek 820s were introduced in the late 1980's and for many years did not have V-brakes like these BR-T4000. The pull length on the levers and the braze-on where the brakes attach may not be appropriate depending on the year of your bike. More recent 820s do have v-brakes, and these shimanos will work on those.
