The original Creature from the Black Lagoon is one of the silver screen's most unforgettable characters and, along with the other Universal Classic Monsters, defined the Hollywood horror genre. The Creature from the Black Lagoon: Complete Legacy Collection includes all 3 films from the original legacy including the gripping classic and the sequels that followed. These landmark motion pictures perfectly blended Universal's classic monster heritage with the science-fiction explosion of the 1950s and continue to inspire remakes and adaptations that strengthen the legend of the Creature from the Black Lagoon to this day. Disc 1 - Creature From the Black Lagoon Review: Old, silly movies are great. - Item arrived in good condition and on the day that was predicted. This is a terrible movie. It is so bad that I loved it. Review: HEADLINE: CREATURE CORRECTED! - After a long wait...finally a corrected, Blu-ray, high-def copy of one of the all-time greats - The Creature from the Black Lagoon!! Now it's not the first movie that was corrected (because all was well with that transfer), but his two sequels...Revenge of the Creature and The Creature Walks Among Us!! After discovering that the first release of the Complete Legacy Collection on Blu-ray had been improperly encoded (and compressed) and transferred for the 2D and 3D versions of Revenge and the 2D version of Walks Among Us, I waited until Universal corrected the problem. Flash forward 6 months and I finally found information that said it had been corrected and there was a new UPC number. Of course every copy I ran across still had the original UPC. So I just went ahead and ordered from desertcart and if it was still the messed up copy Universal Pictures Home Entertainment (UPHE) would replace it! Alright, let's get down to it! This movie set comes packaged in the usual blue plastic clamshell double disc case in a nicely done embossed slipcase. Upon viewing, this is the corrected version of the Legacy Collection! I am very pleased with the high definition transfer for both sequels and they never looked better!! What a trilogy of fine movie making from the 50's! The Creature has had a special place in my heart since first seeing the movies when I was 8 years old on television and having built the old Aurora Creature model kit! But the most endearing was my moms sharing of her experience seeing the original Creature movie in 3D at the movies when it was released when she was a teenager! If you are a fan, or if you just like good monster movies, then by all means purchase this set, you will not be disappointed!! Even if your not sure about the correction; rest assured that UPHE will be more than willing to replace the defective disc. So...grab a bowl of popcorn, grab your gal, get comfortable, and just let yourself slip into the past of the 50's as you enter the desertcart in search of the mysterious and elusive Creature from the Black Lagoon!!!

Great movies
Great series of movies! All done without computer enhancements! If you like the "creature features", these are great movies.

My Favorite Horror Movies From The '60's.
Hadn't seen these movies since I was quite young (and now I'm quite old). These were a staple on Saturday afternoon TV programming back then. Watching the Creature was like a blast from the past. I smiled all through playing these B-movie classics. I might look for more gems from this time and genre now...

UPDATED Review after Universal corrected the defective disc.
December 6 2018 UPDATE: I received my replacement from Universal as of today. According to the padded envelope it was mailed out on the 30th of November. I haven't had a chance to watch all of it but I did scan it and compared it with the previous disc and I concur with the previous pot posted on the Home Theater Forum that the 2D version of Creature Walks among us is not the same as the previous. Yes it is still a very soft picture and does look more like DVD quality but from what I have read from the company that did the restoration on Creature Walks Among Us is that Revenge of the Creature had lots and lots of dupes utilized in its creation and that there is not as much original negative available as there was for Creature Walks Among Us. I assume that this is the best possible source that they had to use and this is as good as it is gonna get. I am not disappointed with it. Wish it could look as good as the other two but if this is all they had to work with I am just glad to have it finally in hi def now. Given that information I am going to move my rating to 5 stars. September 4 2018 UPDSTE: I tried to email Universal via their web site but every time I hit send I would get an error page. So, I sent them a message through Facebook asking if they were looking into the issue and asked if there would be a replacement program. As soon as I hear back from them, if I hear back from them, I will post what I find out. I encourage every one here to do the same. If you do send them a message be sure to be polite :). If you are expecting a high def copy of Revenge of the Creature in 2D, it isn't in this set and that is for sure. I won't elaborate on the 3D version because I do not have a 3D player or a 3D TV. The 3D is useless for me . BUT I am highly disappointed in the 2D version. As has been previously stated the picture is soft. Defiantly not Blu Ray presentation. I would compare it to a high grade SD version, but not a HD Blu Ray version. In my opinion my standard DVD has just as good of a copy as the "Blu Ray". I work very hard for my money and when I buy a Blu Ray I expect HD. The Creature Walks Among Us looks amazing. Universal really does need to go back and reissue this Blu Ray with a HD copy of Revenge of the Creature in 2D. When/if they do, I will re-buy the set. But if all I am going to get is a SD version, I will just keep my DVD copy.

Fine, family fun!
I love this film. Old timey horror flick with goopy monsters, screaming & screechings. I saw it @ a triple feature ! The Drive -in. My friends & I ordered pizzas, (Drive ins offered food & soda: CONCESSIONS: they called it!!) and we settled in for a triple film night of (1950's) Sci-fi horror films!!!. Great fun! This food was far & away much, much better than fast foods of 2025! Cheaper too! Way cheaper! The Creature from...was scary in his own right! Untamed, wild & pointy- screaming thing that he was! Big lizardy paws, long (unpainted nor polished) nails, & shreiking all the time. He is not ugly, just misunderstood. Perhaps some time @ the Drive- ins Concession stand would have done him some good? He certainly could have filled his tummy up there instead of eating frogs & such swamp nonsense. Highly recommended. Fine, family fun!

Universal Corrected Their Mistake
Update: Universal did the right thing and issued replacement copies of the 2nd disc, which now include a proper MVC 3D encode of Revenge of the Creature. Maybe the SBS encode on the previous version was an honest mistake. Who knows? The movie does look a bit soft in some places, but apparently that's due to the original film, and not a result of disc authoring/compression. I can definitely recommend this set now that it contains the corrected disc and I hope that Universal will continue to release more 3D Blu-rays (both new and from their back catalog) in the future. Original Review: I don't think I've ever been so disappointed with a movie set before or so disgusted with the publisher. I'm going to have to think twice before I pre-order anything from Universal again. Many people, like myself, already own the standalone release of Creature from the Black Lagoon on Blu-Ray, with a proper MVC encoded 3D version of the movie. The Legacy Collection contains a re-issue of that same disc along with a second disc that was touted as containing Revenge of the Creature + a 3D version of that film, and the third and final the Creature Walks Among Us film. If that seems like a lot of movie for one disc to you, you're not wrong. So much in fact that Universal couldn't fit a proper 3D version of Revenge of the Creature on it. Instead they put some low resolution split-screen garbage on the disc in lieu of a proper MVC 3D encode. If you're lucky then maybe your TV or Blu-Ray player can convert it into some blurry low-fi version of an actual 3D Blu-Ray movie. Worse still, it seems they used over-aggressive compression on the 2D version of Revenge of the Creature, in order make it fit, so neither version of the film is of acceptable quality. I might expect this sort of thing if I had ordered a movie set from Sri Lanka, but certainly not in a US release from Universal. The 3D Film Archive (the best in the business) did a 4K 3D restoration of this movie for Universal. Many of us have been awaiting a proper 3D release of Revenge of the Creature for years, and were super excited for this release after finding out they had done the restoration. Sadly, this release is so botched it hasn't given us any chance to see the fruits of their labor. We still don't have a proper 3D release of release of Revenge of the Creature, and the only adequate disc in this collection is the one I already owned. What a disappointment! Would it have killed Universal to make this a proper 3 disc collection in order to do it right instead of cutting so many corners? Actually, there are move collections with 3 times as many Blu-Ray discs for less than half of what I paid to pre-order this thing, so no, it wouldn't have. It's sad to see Universal give such poor treatment to a "Legacy Collection" and sadder still to see such a breach of trust with customers and fans who already owned the first disc in the collection and were expecting something at least on par with that release for the other movies. I'll gladly revise this review if Universal decide to do the right thing and give a proper MVC 3D encoded Blu-ray to people who purchased this, but I'm guessing this was not a mistake, just an ill-conceived cost-cutting measure. The ball is in their court now. We'll see what they do.

All 3 films - and the two in 3-D
This set of three films of the Creature series finally gets the full quality treatment it deserves. The first two "The Creature From The Black Lagoon" and "The Revenge of the Creature" are in both optional 3-D and 2-D - "Revenge..." gets its first quality print release in 3-D and the third "The Creature Walks Among Us" gets its first blu ray release and the quality in all three films is commendable. Most would be familiar with the first - and best - of these creature feature's. However, while "Revenge..." lacks any real worth in terms of story and originality - its the Gill Man that takes all the attention with plenty of underwater shots and all mostly coming at you in 3-D. The third made in flat 2-D is I consider a little more original, with some well delivered scenes that have you feeling more empathy for the Gill Man - the usual mis-understanding by man, clouded with fear and ignorance and the creature responds accordingy. The Creature - in all films continues to inspire for its original concept - unlike any other film creation, the very last of that era of the 1950's and so far never remade except a more recent and loving tribute of a gentler soul depiction in the Oscar winning "Shape of Water".

Classic film noir
When I was a kid, I used to sneak to the lounge room door to watch movies that mum and dad were watching. The Creature from the Black Lagoon came on and it scared the life out of me but I loved it and am now so happy I have my own copy. My daughter even likes it

Good quality transfers.
Films here look very much like good quality transfer. Can't play the 3D versions but I wasn't expecting to, since I have neither a 3D player or set.
