M1. Would you purchase this tool just to install a new sight?** A: Yes. It is the best method of installing anything in your rear sight dovetail without causing damage to your vintage rifle. **Q: Will this tool work on a Universal carbine?** A: although a universal is not an exact "spec" copy of the u.s. m-1 carbine, i think the rear sight is a close enough copyfor the sight removal tool you picture to work. the actual sight slides into and out of the "dovetail" shape on top of the receiver.be sure to follow the directions... on my u.s. m-1 carbine, the rear sight only goes on one way (right to left) and off one way (left to right). the removal tool actually pushes the sight out. you will have to disassemble the the receiver/barrel from the stock, which is simple, and then clamp the receiver in a bench vise. use a rag against the receiver to avoid scratches.there is a how-to video on youtube. hope this helps. **Q: Does the M1 carbine have to be dis-assembled in order to use this fixure ? Please explain** A: Yes, you have to field strip the carbine and remove the bolt.
