Nutrition Made Clear (Audio Download): Roberta H. Anding, Roberta H. Anding, The Great Courses, The Great Courses: desertcart.co.uk: Audible Books & Originals Review: A Healthy Meal for the Ear - This audiobook seems well balanced and a pleasure to listen to. A lady with rich experience guides you through the myths of diet, and takes a scientific approach which, of course, is always open to review. Well worth it, and something on which I could make positive steps in my life. I particularly like the integration of exercise and nutrition in the thinking- an holistic approach built on reductionist building blocks. Scientific in places, but Roberta guides you through. Review: Boring, outdated and scientifically cringeworthy - I didn't make it past the second lecture for a variety of reasons. Firstly, the content and presentation is so dry and tedious as to be almost unlistenable. Secondly, I had heard almost no actual science and what little I did hear I already knew to be outdated. Thirdly, I was fairly flabbergasted to hear Ms Anding say canned fruit was a nutritious food in any capacity (it's pretty much just sugar). The tipping point for me was in hearing Ms Anding describe a homeopathic remedy as being a poison. I'm no advocate of homeopathy because it's fundamentally nonsense. However, no homeopathic remedy is poisonous because there's nothing in them! They're just water. The author's lack of very basic scientific knowledge on this point made me cringe utterly and gave me absolutely no confidence in her science skills. I stopped punishing myself and returned the audio book immediately. If you want some understanding on nutrition, I'd recommend reading Taubes, Pollen or Stephen Phinney instead. You'll get some up to date understanding. I was hoping for some wider information on the biochemistry of nutrition but it was patently obvious that I wasn't going to get it here.

Nutrition Made Clear is a fantastic collection of 30 minute audio lectures. The lecturer is clear, concise, and knowledgeable. Additionally, she does an INCREDIBLY good job of explaining the material in a way that is easy for a layman to grasp without sacrificing any of the science. If you want to learn University level Nutrition course material, but you don't want to read textbooks, then this is DEFINITELY the choice for you. One Note: Nutrition Made Clear conforms to the currently most-accepted nutritional theories. In particular, it takes the Lipid Hypothesis as an undisputed fact. No mention of any controversy is made. This may or may not turn out to be good/bad thing, depending on where the evidence eventually falls regarding the Lipid Hypothesis.
